Actually, I have moderated my views slightly. When I was about 3, my Dad started to explain to me where the USSR was and I also learned that communists were evil. When I was 4, maybe almost 5, I was told about how we need to launch a premtive nuclear strike aginst the communist bloc. I did have some idea at the time that a nuke was some type of large destructive weapon. I just didn't know how it would be delivered because I didn't know about those kinds of misiles and bombs yet. I kinda doubt my Dad expected me to retain any of this, and I have no recalection of my Mom objecting to my Dad telling me any of this. My Dad would say something like "what do you do with commees?", and I'd respond "nuke the commees".

Ahhh... nostalgia. :)

I moderated my views later when I came to understand that the people in the communist countries were basically slaves, and that is was the leaders and their enforcers that were evil. Also I later learned that a premtive strike was not feasible anymore long before I was born. A premtive strike would have been a good idea, but it would have needed to be done by 1953 to avoid suffering (relatively) significant losses.

I remember studying communism USSR and Eastern Bloc countries by 1984 or 1985 thought that communism would end there.

The causes are

1. They Isolated themselves from the economic systems of this world.
2. They could not keep up with the U.S. of A. militarily.
3. They were not manufacturing the right economic goods and services to expand there economy.
4. Since they did not use there military might, they in my eyes were never really a SUPERPOWER.

I've always been a Conservative.

As soon as I learnt that my Dad came over here as an immigrant, I've decided to wage a Holy War on immigrants. I know it doesn't make sense, but then again, I never make sense!! !

I think we need to concentrate on the forgotten majority of this country who should keep all their well earnt money, instead of paying a wasteful state to look after drug addicts, homeless, and other such losers.

We need a new Conservative World Order.

Well, I guess it doesn't matter because the asocial democrats have none of those!

Not sure i understand you there. What has religion got to do with any of this? The democrats arent asocial. If you mean im preaching and are insinuating i am asocial then thanks pot. Please consider your own position before attacking the law abiding members of wp!! !

Hmm, everyone missed my joke, it seems. The title of this topic is "When did you convert to your political ideology????" Conversion is usually used in reference to religions, not political ideologies. I took the Roman Catholic sacraments of initiation as examples for dating conversion time. Of course, political parties don't have sacraments!

My second joke in that was the asocial democrats. It's not a spin off the American Democratic Party but of the Social Democrats of Western Europe. I consider my political orientation to be pretty close to the social democrats' except I am much more asocial interpersonally!
My psychotic vision wrote:
Before I became a liberal, I was one of the conservative majority. I persecuted the Democrats, wherever they stood. Then in 2001, a shining vision came to me on the road to Damas...I mean Chicago. It was my lord and savior President William Jefferson Clinton!

"Behold! I am President Clinton!"

"Mr. President?"

"Where are the women?"

"Mr. President, I am traveling alone."

"Oh, that's right. What I meant to ask you is why are you persecuting My People?"

"Because they're liberal pinko scum!"

"So?"

"Yeah, you're right. From this day forth, I will be called a liberal! Thank you, President Clinton!"

"No problem. Now have you seen Monica Lewinsky? She and I were going to 'reminisce' a bit in the office."

Hence I was known as Néant Humain instead of Méchant Humain.

Q) Did you hear that Monica Lewinsky is a Republican now?

A) She said that the Democrats left a bad taste in her mouth.

I apoligize, i had thought of what you meant by your joke pretty much correct but i am paranoid so my mind overuled this with the thought of persecution, particularly as you have been quiet here on the political threads.

I grew into the family tradition. When young I was pretty right wing, but then saw a bit of what goes on and eventually came to my present position, left of centre.
Ther are plenty of people I know of who have travelled far more widely than I have, who have experienced many more cultures, etc, but because they were "head down and get on with it", or "nose in the trough" as we say in parts of Glasgow, they missed most of the important stuff. Pride in your culture, the accomplishments of your country and so on, I can understand. The dogged insistance that it remain that way forever I don't. Every culture produces mistakes, if we don't recognise them, how do we learn from them?
PS NeantHuman, keep the jokes coming, even if I don't get them all.

I'm a democrat, I got very interested in politics as a kid and even though I have moved onto to new things, it still interests me. I lean more toward a socialist/structured idealism though. I don't like things that don't balance out in my mind. For instance I think we should all pay the same % of our income to taxes, I don't understand why they would have some people pay a higher % than others. I do think we should have healthcare for everyone like Canada.

I agree about a socialist structure. Though, in order to achieve this you have to tax the rich more than the poor. Say, a poor person earns $20,000 per year, and pays 20% in tax, he will have $16,000 left after tax.

Ok, then you have a rich person earning $1,000,000 per year. If you tax him 40%, he is still left with a staggering $600,000 to play with.

The rich guy still ends up with more wealth even though he pays more tax, so it is fair to tax rich people a lot more.
