But I think that folklore and myths contain much information, so I think folklore and fairy tales which are about 7000 years old can be good proofs.

And Jewish folktales go back at least that far, too. Thus, as the successor to Judaism, Christianity is as old as Slavic paganism, by the same logic.

I'm not talking about the existence of information, I'm talking about a verifiable continuity of existence of social institutions.

It all has been mentioned above. Read please about the 988 attentively. I don't deny that my religion may be called "neo-paganism", it surely had some changes, but Christianity also had. And is in process of changing all the time.

Now you're weaseling. I didn't say "never underwent changes". I said "verifiable continuity of existence of social institutions". Hindu religions underwent changes and can still verify continuity going all the way back to at least the time of the Rig Veda. My own church can verify continuity at least as far back as Rome can verify its own. I never at any time said "never underwent change". I have always been referring to verifiable continuity of institutions. They are two different things.

I just added one more sentence. Sorry, TWO. Don't cling to a word - otherwise PM to me if you want just to argue. I don't think so many trolling and off-topic posts are good to be placed in the "Poll".

I read somewhere that Christianity has steadily been dying since the early nineties. The article I read also stated that by 2030 or so, only something like 10% of people will consider themselves as being Christian.

If this is true, this means that the future will be filled with a lot more free-thinkers than there are today. I envy the people of the future. Those will be better times I can assure you.

I think it's likely that religions and Christianity would still be in 50 years at least, I don't know in 100 years though, I can't really say for sure, I believe it depends on economic and cultural factors.

There are some things that we have to consider on this, the goal of religion with politics and governments, for one. Not all countries in the world have a separation of church and state, a question, how many countries have a complete separation of church and state? anyway, I believe poverty have an influence in some places in which religion is predominant to certain degree or fully predominant, so I believe that if somehow in the future poverty is erradicated and the whole world becomes industrialized and developed, then it would be possible for complete separation of church and state, if everyone adopt the same type of democracy and freedom.

At least all governments could adopt secularism, in that aspect.

No amount of indoctrination or persecution is going to get rid of Christianity.

Christianity is declining in Western Europe but is booming in the Third World (particularly Sub-Saharan Africa).

One thing I can think of is the Egiptyan Empire, the empire lasted for three thousand years if I'm correct, no other empire have lasted that long, I don't think no one would last that long in current times, religions have evolved in history, at least, we can see that before Judaism was born and how originated and spread and splitted into other religions.

One thousand years from now, I don't know, either humanity is no longer in the planet, or religion will evolve into something else, dogmaless spirituality perhaps or no longer existent, although it might be sooner than 1000 years.

I didn't want to say this, but I forsee the future, a race of aliens will come to earth to conquer it, they will demand worship and adoration, distroying every religion on earth gradually, some would even change their dogmas from different religions (christianity, islam, etc) to go along with the new religion, a group of aliens being seen as semi-deities with the main deity between them, most people will be brainwashed, so likely just very few would rebel.

Don't worry, once their economies take off and people get properly educated, dogmatic religions will automatically dwindle there also. :D

On one hand, in previous generations, Christianity and its practices have been promulgated by the older portion of the population. But there is a shift towards youth based faith practices. In that light, we could expect a rise in life time practicing.

On the other hand, Our society is going to change to be unrecognisable in that time period. We will either embrace technology to the point where we make it part of our bodies, or we will fail to maintain a society based on progressive technological advancements.

In the end, I think you can expect it to stick around but there will be massive changes to doctrine.

I have some news for you people. I phoned God up last night and he told me that Christianity will be over in 50-100 years. He told me that he's tired of Christianity and is deciding to switch to a slacker life-style.

It kind of sucks when your God decides to quit religion himself eh?

I heard somewhere that God was dead. Was I misinformed?

You were misinformed. He passed out after drinking the leftover wine from communion.

I just thought of something.... If alcohol is served at communion, it means that alcohol must be holy. I'm pretty sure that Jesus drank alcohol in the bible also. In my opinion, everything that Jesus did, I should do myself.

I'm gonna start getting hammered everyday. :D
