Happy birthday to Charles Darwin, and also to Abraham Lincoln, both born 12 February 1809.
I knew an old professor who used to ask students, "What internationally famous person was born on February 12th, 1809?" His American students would all answer "Abraham Lincoln." Then he would say, "No, no, I said
internationally famous."
Folks in the US know who Garibaldi, Bismark, and Queen Victoria, were. Likewise folks outside the US have some idea who Lincoln was. So I would say that Lincoln
is "internationally" famous.
But I agree that Darwin's impact was more international than Lincoln's.
