Think about it! Most of the world
1) Is shallow
2) Is greedy
3) Is callous
4) Is cruel
5) Is status-obsessed
6) Is illogical

Finally, people don't truly believe in love. Their idea of friendship is simply a temporary alliance to gain status. Their idea of a relationship is lust long enough to stay past a one night stand.

Why shouldn't I feel morally superior to them all?

I agree, a lot of people fit those adjectives. I do in some ways but I can tell the difference between pettiness and what's important. I am petty about some things but I try to make up for it in other areas.
I admit, I feel morally superior to some of the people in my immediate area. My belief is that people in this area are brought up to be violent and selfish, to some extent. I don't think everyone is like that though. There's a higher concentration of that in this area, from what I can tell. I am idealistic about other places. My philosophy is the goodness in other places makes up for the badness here so I focus on the other places and think happy thoughts about people who live in them.

Not really 'they' dont give a s**t and continue on with their lives you on the other hand become more and more isolated and bitter. I would suggest that it IS you that has the problem in more ways than one.

Yes. Sometimes I do.

It would be poor manners to admit to such feelings...
Although I will admit my tact is often lacking.

Don't worry, timeisdead. You just have to find the right people for you. They are out there. Don't waste your time on jerks who have no respect for you and want to treat you bad. Demand people treat you with the respect you deserve! There are decent people who will accept you and do nice things for you, and want to be around you. The hard part is finding them!

Morals are subjective, and everyone has their own morals. So by definition, everyone feels morally superior.

Not only are morals subjective, but they are also arbitrary. How can it make any sense that two unmarried people having sex are doing little, if anything, immoral; but one of them having sex with a third person is an immoral act known as "cheating"?

How is it that a wedding ceremony - even a civil one - makes sex between two people a moral act; yet when one of them masturbates alone, that is somehow "immoral"?

How is a picture of a naked teenage taken the day before she turns 18 an immoral thing, but the same picture of the same girl in the same pose taken the day of her birthday any less immoral?

Subjective and arbitrary.

Thank you so much for this post; it truly made my day :) . Although I have some close friends and a boyfriend, I feel very misunderstood by the world around me. You are dead on! Never show respect for a person who never shows you the same.

It is more than a matter of not showing respect, it is a matter of maintaining total respect for yourself and your own opinions to provide you with a sense of personal worth. If someone tries to flatten you with a nasty comment let that comment be a signal that it should have no effect on you. But listen carefully to all comments and evaluate them cooly and from the standpoint of logic and validity. Some are worthwhile and can be helpful. Growth takes time and experience.

I don't think my morals are better than anyone else, a good balance of the bad and the good allows you to make it through. <.< (that being said, it all changes depending on someone's interpretation, most people tell me i'm a good person, but some think i'm annoying =/ so meh).
