However, you cease to exist as a sentient mind, when I die I will live on, but not as a person, as a memory, and more than that even, anything such as genes or great feats of my mind such as discovering new ways to do something, then I will live on through those as well, of course it isn't as simple as that, but as a human mind with independent thought you as a being cease to exist, your particles return to the universal structure

You are more than your sentient mind. You are your thoughts, your actions, your genes, the things you did to change the world and all these things live on.

in the minute before i die, there will be birds twittering in the trees as usual. there will be people in cars on their way to where they are going. there will be cargo ships unloading. there will be people who are falling in love. there will be meals being served, and showers being had. all the things in the world will be happening as usual.

in the minute after i die, there will be birds twittering in the trees as usual. there will be people in cars on their way to where they are going. there will be cargo ships unloading. there will be people who are falling in love. there will be meals being served, and showers being had. all the things in the world will be happening as usual.

there will be no frame of existence lost in the world when i am switched off.

a cloud floating by overhead will not change it's form when i am quashed.
no grain of dirt in the garden will change it's position.

my kookaburras will land on my railing at 4:00pm the day i die, and they will sit there until late dusk, and then they will fly away. my mice will line up on the fence 8 abreast (there are 8 of them) and they will wiggle their tails in expectation of my back door to open and me to come out.
they will disperse by about 9pm.
my possums will sniff and scratch at the back door to get my attention, but all the lights will be off so they will feel strange.

the next day it will all happen again and so on until some weeks later when they realize i am gone for good. then they will perish or move on.

my life (as well as all other lives) is part of "history in the making", and because i have free will, history must consult me in order to compile itself.

after i die, history will continue to unfold without consulting me, because then i will be fully in it.

i will always be part of history and that fact will remain true forever.

Billions upon billions of people have existed and died and most are as distinguished as the individual drops that comprise the oceans. But not all. But in ten million years (which is an instant in time) no one will be remembered nor, probably, will there be anyone to remember them.

Exactly, but my point was that you, as a sentient mind, cease to exist, you genes continue, as do your actions, but you as a sentient mind can no longer interact with the world as a whole

That seems most likely to me, but I am keeping an open mind. Or do you have definite evidence?

that is very true that no one will be remembered. but history is not what is contained within memories.
history is an account of the entire proceedings of the universe. it is not possible to fit into any "mind", but that does not obviate it's reality.

it is absolutely true that after the last thing that ever happens, history will be completed. and everything (no matter how miniscule) that happened, will be part of the "story of the universe".

Of course I do not, just as I have no definative evidence that god lacks existance, but of course I am going by what I think is the logical explanation, if tommorow scientists proved that you survive after brain death I would of course look into it and if it was very accurate I would go with that, I merely go with the best theories as they surface

I suspect that I will cease to be, although it is possible that there is some form of 'after life' but I seriously doubt it.

On the other hand if god exists; immediately after my death the grovelling and apologies will begin

I agree :P
I shall bring up the fact that I never truly had free will if such a momentous event occurs

It is, I suppose, a matter of temperament, but if, after I die, I encounter Him, my first action will be an immediate attempt to punh Him in the nose. (Assuming, of course, he has a nose. If not, I'll kick Him in the tentacle.)

Please tell me the name of your great grandparents.

Haven't the slightest idea. Evidently they did nothing noteworthy. Perhaps I'll do better. I no doubt have their genes.

And who will read it?

it does not need to be "read" in order to exist.
things exist as certainly as they do in a "mind that bears witness" as they do without any conscious mind anywhere in the universe to see it.
