Aren't we forgetting about one of the few truly automatic pistols which was made by Mauser....?

Mauser licensed their designs to other companies/countries and have been copied by many (eg pre-64 Mod 70 Winchester).

Sweedish Mauser is 6.5mm calibre and has a reputation for being very accurate over long distances. pre 1960's, German Mauser was 8mm. Many other countries adopted 7mm, which IMO is best, not like the crappy little 223 (5.56mm) most armies have now.

There is a reason there are few full automatic pistols. Most people can't hit anything with them.

Yes, but they made a serie of rifles together with a Swedish arms manufacturer.

You mean the machine pistol (have forgotten its name)?

It's the C96 Mauser pistol, M1932 or M712....

I think M712 is the one I'm thinking of (from Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater)...

It is rare to have a true automatic pistol, actually.

For those of you who do not understand, what are normally called "automatics" are actually technically "semi-automatics". That is, you have to pull the trigger each time you shoot a bullet. A true automatic, you just hold down the trigger, and hang on!

(And I mean hang on. I've heard stories about gun barrels rising on full-automatic....)

It all depends on the configuration of the stock. muzzel brakes and ports also have some effect. The recoil effect can make the muzzel push down, or up.

How can you want to ban something you know little about?

Now that I've come to think of it, I've seen barrels move up, or horizontally from recoil. Never down....

Now that I come to think about it, the stock (handle) of a gun would make it less likely for a gun on automatic to fire down....

What guns would cause a firing downward on automatic, Bazza?

Its all about dynamics, angles of moments etc.

If the butt of the gun is above the centre of mass, muzzle will fall. If its below, muzzle will rise. Direct in line (AR14) is will not move.

Further to this, in an auto there is a rear moving bolt that absorbs rearward momentum & energy, reducing recoilt felt by the shooter and any muzzle movement

I grew up with guns, was hunting at an early age with my dad, was a member of the NRA, had my picture on the cover of a hunting magazine, reloaded shells, shot trap and skeet, did target practice and earned awards - all as a girl and all before I was 20. Then I grew up. Guns have no good use to humanity at all in any country. The second amendment should be amended! One day hopefully there will be an Earth without them. I support conscious evolution.

I'm Canadian, we don't have that 2nd Amendment either. I know you're brought up on it but believe me, it's a little startling to foreigners who read it for the first time. But then, the whole US Constitution was very radical for its time - the "freedoms" were the firsts.

There's the familiar argument about carrying blunderbusses. But there's also this: in 1776, nobody ever dreamed of such a thing as New York City or Los Angeles. I believe crowding affects the crime rate.

Anyway, I like the car license analogy. If I want to drive, I need 6 weeks training, a license, a registered car. I don't know why guns should be anonymous.

And yes, it should be regional. State legislature should be in charge of that. A gun in Texas or Alaska is not like a gun in NYC or LA.

The problem here is that you did'nt grow up. You de-evolved. One step forward and three steps back you went. When to take a few steps forward, come talk to me.

Oh, I would accept if I could get a gun license as easily as I got my driving license or if I would have to commit a very serious crime to get it revoked for good, like my driving license. I would also like to have it without doing a "test drive" twice a month or week as you need in Sweden to keep your gun license...In our country you also have to renew the license every fifth year or be prosecuted with gun crime(!). When you take the driving license, you will have it for the rest of your life, if your not very seriously ill or have a license for driving big trucks in which case you just have to give in a medical proof that your healthy at the age of 45, to the county board. That I could accept. I could even except more fools loosing their driving licenses if at the same time more law obedient, sane people could more easily get a gun license. Also a car is a much more complicated machine than a gun, that is mechanically very easy to handle. But the cowards in charge in this country will never make that come true...

Gun laws are made to disarm the people, nothing else.

Like our friend Quatermass she just simply can't get into her head that the evil guys, criminals and oppressors, will ALWAYS have guns, and that therefore guns are the little man's only protection against them. The only. How would you help the little man by taking away his protection?

Shame you grew up and forgot some things are just fun.

Ski resorts and downhill skiing serve no use to humanity and just burn lots of fossil fuel for the amusement of those with money to spend on such frivolous pursuits.

What's wrong with target shooting, just for fun, or taking a Jack Russell on a fox hunt, as they were bred for and their instincts crave?

And just because you may have achieved a high level of enlightenment, why deny me my ancient instincts to hunt?
