WHO CARES?

Seriously, dude. Unless the gay community breaks down your door and systematically violates you against your will, how does sodomy matter in the least to you? You think sodomy is "gross?" Do you know how many weird and digusting fetishes their are out there with nothing to do with homosexuality? Urine drinking? Feces fetishes? But guess what: It's got nothing to do with me, it's not my business, so I completely don't give a damn. Why do you care?

I think you know why I object to sodomy. You're trying to villify me and I do not appreciate it.

People in general are subject to sin, all kinds of sin. Compred to Jesus Christ, we are all sinful in so many ways.

I'm assuming the same reason everyone else objects to it without reason.

No, I'm not.

I'm taking part in a debate about homosexuality and just because your belief is vested in a religion that you hold dear does not mean that you're immune in this discussion. This is about homosexuals, and if you come to this debate, voice your opinion, then I have the right to disagree and question your views with my opinion. If you didn't want your particular interpretation of your faith to be questioned, then you shouldn't have entered this discussion with reasoning you have taken from a book of faith.

There are all kinds of sexual practices I consider "gross" but if they involve consenting adults, it's frankly none of my business or anybody else's.

Just look up paraphilias and fetishes if you wish to see all the various ways that people get sexual pleasure.

If there is no harm done (unwanted physical pain), why is it wrong?

Immune? Immune to what? I am immune to nothing.

We are both well within our rights here. The minute I start using hate-speech or abusive language, then I have no right to post on this thread. So far, I have been rational and respectful. I have used no epithets, no abusive language of any kind.

But to be perfectly clear, I cannot interfere with how others live their lives. As a Christian I have my own beliefs, but it takes all kinds of people to make a world. I do not preoccupy myself with the private lives of others.

Well, how am I vilifying you?

Jesus said, "thou shall not judge".

I'm pretty sure he meant that we shouldn't pass judgement on other people. That means that we do not have the right to say someone is "good" or someone is "bad". That's god's job.

And I'm not even a Christian.

Gays, lesbians, bisexuals, and transpeople ... Children of God, all. God loves everybody exactly as they are. Politics aside. Society aside. Don't you see how we are all struggling with sin of some sort no matter who we are? The fact that we're all sinful makes equals.

We're equal because we're all God's children. Mine is not a philosophy of snobbery or elitism.

Murder, theft, adultery, etc. I can see why God would make them sins. I just don't understand why sodomy is a sin. Okay, the body wasn't intended for that. So? I once scratched myself with a banjo pick, but I'm sure the pick manufacturers aren't especially upset because I'm not using their creation the way it was intended. I know that this is a dead end, and I hope I'm not offending you as a Christian, but I'm not going to denounce something for seemingly no reason without any explanation. Everyone should have a reason behind their stances, and God is no exception. I don't see "He's too great and beyond your comprehension" as a viable excuse; if He's lowering himself to humans standards to denounce petty sexual acts then he is not great enough not to give His children a reason.

It's okay for us to judge others as long as we remember we're being held to the same standard. If we remember to hold ourselves to the standards to which we hold others, the risk of dishonesty and hypocrasy is much lower. There's human judgement, andn then there's divine judgement.

"Let he who is without sin cast the first stone."

Unless one is without sin, one has no right to judge anyone, correct?

There's a big difference between judging somebody and stoning her to death.

Jesus said, "Let he among you who is without sin cast the first stone."

A bunch of guys were about to stone the woman who had committed adultery, yeah? But then Jesus came along and reminded them of their own sinful nature as men. Stoning is an action, while judging is a mental activity.

What is the point in judging if the stoning does not follow? What does judging accomplish if it is not stoning?

Discrimination against homosexuals is also a form of stoning.

I think Jesus meant that both the judging and the stoning were wrong.

I agree. Stoning, in the context of the story, is an outward expression of judgement & contempt. Forming a nasty opinion about someone, however, is far less significant than killing them.

Why have the nasty opinion (judgment) if you do not act on it (stoning)?

If you find sodomy morally wrong, why do you not try to stop it (stoning)?

I can only assume if you truly believe that homosexuality (or anal sex) is wrong (judgment), then it would be immoral of you not to try to stop it (stoning).

Because killing is also wrong. Two wrongs do not make a right.
