under capitalism, if you have no financial worth, you have no roof over your head or anything else. under socialism there are at least a few crumbs thrown towards those of us not financially talented.

Substance Level = Zero

These kinds of wealth gaps occur in capitalist societies as well.

Late-stage socialism, before the inevitable collapse, when the only consideration left is who has the guns.

The Army Took Over the Spigots, Forcing Thirsty Venezuelans to Pay

(Bloomberg) -- To arrive at the El Paraiso water-filling station in Caracas by sunrise, Rigoberto Sanchez wakes before 4 a.m. Hours later, his tanker is in a slow-moving line with a dozen others. Only two of the 10 pumps work and Sanchez will have time for a couple of deliveries if he’s lucky. If he’s luckier, the military won’t intercept him.

“They hijack our trucks, just like that,” said Sanchez, leaning on a rusty railing. “Once that happens, you’re in their hands, you have to drive the truck wherever they want you to.”’

Venezuela’s military has come to oversee the desperate and lucrative water trade as reservoirs empty, broken pipes flood neighborhoods and overwhelmed personnel walk out. Seven major access points in the capital of 5.5 million people are now run by soldiers or police, who also took total control of all public and private water trucks. Unofficially, soldiers direct where drivers deliver — and make them give away the goods at favored addresses.

Libertarian Socialism is an oxymoron.

Very good column in USA Today for any young folks (especially) who haven't yet been completely brainwashed by the SJWs of the Junior Socialist League:

"It is a common misconception that socialism is about helping poor people. Actually, what socialism does is create poor people, and keep them poor. And that’s not by accident."

I live in a socialist country and it is very gentle. The states never were, I might be on the streets if I'd stayed, but instead I am receiving counseling and autism education, I'm doing volunteer work and I'll be getting an education soon so I can live a more useful existence and not feel crappy about myself.

I believe Socialism won't work in America though just like Communism didn't work lots of places, although there are some pretty successful communist parts of Switzerland which are peaceful and gentle on a scale that is hard to wrap my brain around. You can't implement every political philosophy in every culture at every scale. one size does not fit all.

Venezuela Inflation Could Reach One Million Percent by Year’s End

MEDELLÍN, Colombia — The prediction was eye-popping even for Venezuela’s collapsing economy: One million percent inflation by year’s end, according to the International Monetary Fund.

On Monday, the fund released a periodic estimate of growth and inflation rates around Latin America, a roundup that included neighbors like Chile (where inflation should be headed to 3 percent) and Peru (where growth is predicted to reach 3.7 percent).

But it is Venezuela that continues to chart a different course from neighbors — with an increasingly breakneck economic disintegration.

Real gross domestic product, the value of goods and services produced in the economy and adjusted for inflation, is expected to fall by 18 percent in 2018, the third consecutive year of double-digit declines, the fund estimated.

Venezuela is about to go full Zimbabwe. And you never want to go full Zimbabwe.

I've always wondered how popular socialism and communism as concepts would be in academia if, rather than those in academia and the proponents of socialism and communism thinking they would make up the politburo/elite (all animals are equal but some are more equal than others), they would agree to the following in furthering the cause:

1) Create a government where anyone in "power" would only be able to serve one year in whatever position they'd take and for the remainder of their life be a lowly low paid worker living in worker housing with absolutely no chance of moving up, no perks or privileges. Truly equal.

"Ummmmmm, well, no. See, I'm really smart and well schooled and the "party" requires my intellectual abilities to come to successful fruition. My higher IQ and talent would contribute much more to "the people's cause" so it should be rewarded. Someone has to live in those mansions we the people seized after all....."

2) Also create that government to police itself or allow "the people" to police each other in that if any member of the politburo was found to live in a manner any more extravagant or privileged than any other or found exploiting the people for personal gain, they would be publicly executed by the people in the town square. Truly equal.

"Ummmmm, well no. See that wouldn't work because........."

Uh huh.

Country(US) was restabilized on policies built in the New Deal and organizations that helped build our current infrastructures like the TVA and CCC. Major commonwealths in this country's social security and medicare- You already live in a socialist country. Public ownership of social problems like Judicial systems, health and education's socialist.

Kids: Use dictionaries to see just how far socialism and communism are from each other

Hmmm.....could we agree that "socialism" as a term encompasses many different types of socialist governance and the effect the differences have on its citizens? Contrasting socialism in western Europe with what's looking like a genocidal hot mess that is Venezuela?

SZWell: Would you agree with me that if anything else, communism would probably be less popular as a Utopian dream if the two conditions I lay out in my post were part of such a government's plan?

Sorry If You’re Offended, but Socialism Leads to Misery and Destitution

On the same day that Venezuela’s “democratically” elected socialist president, Nicolas Maduro, whose once-wealthy nation now has citizens foraging for food, announced he was lopping five zeros off the country’s currency to create a “stable financial and monetary system,” Meghan McCain of “The View” was the target of internet-wide condemnation for having stated some obvious truths about collectivism.

During the same week we learned that the democratic socialist president of Nicaragua, Daniel Ortega, is accused of massacring hundreds of protesters whose economic futures have been decimated by his economic policies, Soledad O’Brien and writers at outlets ranging from GQ, to BuzzFeed, to the Daily Beast were telling McCain to cool her jets.

In truth, McCain was being far too calm. After all, socialism is the leading man-made cause of death and misery in human existence. Whether implemented by a mob or a single strongman, collectivism is a poverty generator, an attack on human dignity, and a destroyer of individual rights.

in the "third way nations" it leads to increased general prosperity and improved national health, relative to most amuuuuricans. our maternal and infant mortality rates are bottom of the pack relative to the rest of the west. our life expectancy has been decreasing for 2 straight years now. the chickens have come home to roost and nobody is paying any attention. this can't end well.
