The Black Panthers tried this, didn't really work then either. a better solution would be dialing back the militarization of police and correcting for institutional prejudice.
We do not have any control over the Federal Government. They are the ones militarizing the police. Institutional prejudice would seem to be having laws that do not give equal treatment to all.
It is not the police killing 400 Black men a year in New Orleans, it is Black men.
Fairly recent history for us, been here since 1500, the White on White murder rate was just as high until recently.
A lot of it seems to do with economic condition, poor people kill each other, rich people sue.
According to The Constitution, as amended, Blacks and Women are also The People mentioned therein.
We cannot make everyone economically equal, culturally, 250 years ago Whites were murdering each other, less than a quarter could even read their name, and many Black people were still in Africa.
Blacks are now about as literate as Whites were during WWII. Like everyone else their incomes have declined since 1970. Young Black women are over represented in University Degrees, and Government jobs.
The Rights of Citizenship are what make the Obligations bearable.
This is something we can't really criticize due to lack of information. If blacks resist arrest and threaten police proportionally more than whites, this statistic makes complete sense. Other factors which could help this make sense is the environment in which the event transpires.
I'll be honest, I haven't looked up any numbers, but are we actually sure that blacks are killed by police at a proportionally higher number than whites? Or are they just the ones that make the news so there's a greater awareness?
Security ate another post. This is annoying.

Yes it is GD annoying!
When you see your reply is missing hit the back arrow until it takes you back past the captcha to where you wrote your reply and it should still be there.
From there one of two things should work.
- Either hit submit and see if it takes that time after the captcha.
- Do a copy then paste it if captcha eats it again then re-submit. Sometimes you just hve to play with it like that.

I always preview and then submit, sometimes having to back up a time or two. I haven't had a problem not being able to post in quite a while since doing this.

Depends on who’s using them and for what purpose. Shooting a gun is really not like playing COD and there is some skill involved. In some cases a hammer can be a more desirable killing weapon.
1. Quieter
2. Much cheaper
3. Easier to obtain
4. The satisfaction and sheer joy of personally and up close stoving someone’s skull in that just can’t be experienced by using any gun.

... which is why the military makes sure that soldiers have access to hammers everywhere they go, right? Again: guns are very good tools for killing things. Other tools might be used for killing as an accessory function, or might be more primitive killing tools, but guns are currently one of the most effective way for killing someone dead. I have personally seen multiple types of wounds in the ED, and bullet wounds are second only to explosives in the level of tissue damage caused by a deliberate weapon.

Yes, I get angry when people are deliberately obtuse and think that they're making a point. See above.

Most all of gun show sales are from FFL (Federal Firearms License) dealers and they go through ALL the steps for each sale. Trust me.
Most? Yes.

^depending on the study, 15-22% of sales don't use a background check.

^this one suggests 2/5 of sales use no check.

^this one says about 1/3 of sales have no check (34%), and includes some lovely sting videos at gun shows.

The ATF is not going to issue an FFL to an individual just so they can sell their granddaddy’s old Fox Sterlingworth shotgun for the money to buy a new TV. That’s pretty much what you are proposing.
No. I'm proposing that private transfers require a background check, not that anyone selling a gun has to register as a dealer. Private car transfers do not require private car sellers to call themselves auto dealers.

the fact that there have been all the guns sales there have been since your boy Barack took office and no subsequent rises in gun crime speak volumes.
Edit: another note on guns vs. knives.
The same day as Sandy Hook here in the US, a different madman armed with a cooking knife attacked a kindergarten in China and attacked the students there, slashing as many children as he could reach.
'Ah, see?' You say. 'Knives are just as bad as guns.'
But there is a catch, of course, or I wouldn't mention it:
None of the children in the Chinese attack died. Not a single one. They were horrifically injured, but don't you think a parent would rather have a scarred child than a dead one?

How do you regulate hacking and spamming? (Just curious)
