How does a deductible work? is it anything over that is covered? in what time period, a year? And if the person still can't afford to get treatment? he/she would just be wasting money.

Exactly! Its my understanding that with a deductible, i have to pay everything out of pocket until i reach the preset amount (say $6000). I can have a physical, dental checkup, eye exam, heck, i could pay ruveyn $700 to tell me im an idiot, all for less than $1500. Unless i were in an accident or suffered a serious illness, i would never make it to $6000. Even then, i dont have $6000 to spend on care until the insurance kicks in.

Obamacare is entirely useless to me, its just a blood tax as someone else said.

As I said, you have a yearly cap on how much you'll need to pay but you also have the insurance plan picking up a large % of the costs as they are incurred. You can then argue over the remaining amount with the doctor later. But you got your care and most of it was paid by your insurance.

The bronze plan covers 60%, silver 70%, gold 80%, platinum 90%. They all have the same yearly cap on out of pocket expenses, which is based on some other law iirc. These plans should also cover some basic preventative care like checkups. That is in the law in some form but I dont know the details.

I see now that there is a fifth type of policy (called catastrophic) that will literally cover nothing but costs beyond your deductible, as you mentioned above. That's for young adults under 30 only. I assume it will be much cheaper than the other plans.

This is interesting. There is a lower cap on out of pocket expenses for lower income people. There is a chart to detail the levels but the OP would come in under 150% of the federal poverty level and so would have a yearly cap of less than $2000 dollars. The reduction scales all the way up to 400% of the poverty level so people making up to the middle five figures would also see a benefit.
