Ugh. I'm furious. How could the rest of Canada not SEE that Harper is clearly weaving a web of lies? <.< Even in "La Presse" of this morning, they said that stuff from Wikileaks had been given to them. According to the number 2 of the embassy of Washington in Ottawa Terry Breese, mister Harper "enjoys" seeing fear in the eyes of the ones that want to work for him. o.O He's also apparently portrayed as a guy who "thinks he's the most intelligent guy in the room" and who surrounds himself by yesmen. <.<

Did the ~40% of Canadians who voted Conservative pay any attention at all to what Harper is doing to our country? My guess is no

N-D-P topic

I am glad to see such a surge for the NDP and Jack Layton. This will help to keep parliament busy. Harpy will still not have free reign, as the people will SEE him for what he is now.

I hope so, but I don't trust to hope. People have had 5 years to see what he's about and they still chose to give him a majority...

My dad complained that one of the fatal flaw of this system is the lack of a second tour (kind of like France, if you will). If there had been one, i'm pretty sure most people would have been able to either mobilize their vote against the conservatives (or the NPD, obviously) or switch completely. =/ I had some respect for Ontario for not adopting the views of Ottawa, but it would seem their influence has spread all the way to the city. -.-

People are told that having elections every two years is bad and "unstable", that Harper showed he could be trusted so give him a stable five year term of absolute power. Actually, he didn't pass everything he wanted, but there's this poll that said that 60% of Canadians think Harper won't govern any differently with a majority. Big, big mistake.

This is a catastrophe. Voodoo economics that has failed a million times to actually work in any way other than as corruption.

Agreed. I'm arguing with someone on facebook who thinks that it's wrong to demonize Harper and that now the Conservatives have a majority we'll be able to "get stuff done". "Getting stuff done" and "getting helpful stuff done" are two completely different things.

Il ne s'intéresse pas à ses propres erreurs... il ne veut pas écouter les partis d'opposition aussi. Ego? lol

I wonder how much CRAP he'll ram through. I fear this may be like the Chretein/Martin austerity cuts ON STERIODS.

I hope he doesn't meddle with the Canada Health Act. And those 65 jets are a bad decision. I'm sure we could design a good jet ourselves- we have in the past... and the US didn't like it, so the Conservative (big surprise!) government canned the project in favor of nuclear tipped anti-aircraft missiles https://secure.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/wiki/Avro_arrow (great idea, lets just irradiate the North...) ... Personally I am for research into more advanced stealth UAV attack aircraft and even ROV submarines/gunboats to patrol our coastline. Better to make a domestic industry.

More giveaways to the already very wealthy... it's voodoo economics. $14 billion in giveaways will need to be balanced on the backs of those with little, we will be told. I hate the people of Ontario in particular. They voted for that incompetent E. Coli Harris and now are forcing this stupidity on the rest of us. I hope the PQ sweeps to power here and if those clowns in Ottawa push it, I certainly will vote for the Yes in the referendum. The BQ are the real big winners of this, if sovereignty is their goal, as that goal has been given new life. If the Conservatives return to old habits of being the Party of Unemployment as has been their historic role, they will certainly help create a new country of Quebec. The rest of Canada are aliens with values totally at odds with those of any civilised society.

Rejoice for Choice and Voice topic

The people of Quebec have spoken, and Harris is busy giving himself raises as a director of Magna Corporation, probably in bed with both Stronachs, and then there will be financial trouble there, if it is not there already.

I see the results of this election as the glass half full, if not more, for the NDP (NPD in Quebec). Now there is a true national presence for Quebec in Ottawa, and Jack is a Quebec native. he knows he has to work hard now, and he knows it would be folly to take his win there for granted. the Separatistes are always dangling les carottes in front of the citizenry, and this has gotten them nowhere. I am from Ontario, and personally, I do not care what you think of me or my province. Common sense will prevail in Quebec, avec travailles de Jack et la NPD. :D

Well, if Jack dies of old age and no competent leader replaces him (and we find out the conservatives had a hand in it), Quebec could unilateraly commit secession since it's not in the confederation anyway. ^^
