The best Christians, I think, are those who acknowledge that it's all about faith at the end of the day.
There are different kinds of faith.
Rational belief/ faith- believing something is true for which there is some reason to think it is true
Blind belief/faith- believing something is true no matter what, even if there is reason to think it is false
Nuetral belief/faith- believing something is true for which there is no reason for or against
We do not live in an African tribe or any kind of tribe any more. Have you ever heard tribal people speak. They use magic and Gods to explain the natural world. If you ever read history Gods were controllers of the weather. It was the way they explained science, it was a way for them to grasp the ideas of science because they didn't have the technology we had. They did not have the knowing we have now. God is no longer needed in our society.

@donnie_darko & Lord_Gareth: The show is brilliant. A theory that can try and explain how things really happened way back when by eliminating the ridiculous popular archaeological views that proffer impossible solutions and replace them with a scientific edge, which looks at the bible as a collection of accounts rather than elaborate fiction from 'god', has been a game changer for me.
I cannot fathom how people cannot accept this concept as a valid theory, when religion with all it's massive contradictions and glaring bigotries is so widely accepted. It's good to know there are other people here who keep a scientifically open mind.

the issue for me is not so much that i dont see it as a possibiity, only very very improbable.
remember that history channel needs to sell television too.
I see it as improbable also, however I see the core of it as more probable than the current archaeological model. If the issue was turned around and it was us visiting an alien world, would we not do the same (genetic manipulation, aiding the civilisation, wanting to be revered as 'gods', providing knowledge). We do some of this ourselves to animals, now imagine those animals are another alien culture. Once you get past the frankly arrogant idea that we are alone in the Universe, these questions come in to play. At the very least it is a fascinating theory, at the very most it is a complete redefining of our culture, history and our place in the Universe, hence why I see peoples reticence toward the issue. For me though it's a valid idea and only goes against what already cannot be proved by the mainstream theories. There is no solid proof with regards to certain histories (how the pyramids were build, Stonehenge, Puma Punku etc), that these theories can explain, and for me this one seems the most logical as I can get over the idea that we are not the only sentient life in the Galaxy.
