So what would you do at the point of dying if God said OK here I am, take your choice? Live with me in eternity or not. I gather a lot of people here would take their chances without God. That really is the crux of the matter. Is it really God's fault if you choose to reject Him?

I hate to bring you bad news. When we are dead, we are gone and done with forever.

Once around is all anyone gets. There is no hereafter. That is why we must use our pitiful 70, 80, or 90 years wisely.

Pascal's Wager? Really?

No, it is not God's fault if you choose to reject him, but since he doesn't exist it is entirely YOUR fault if you waste your only life on god.
The way I see it you are the one taking the ultimate chance. You don't get two chances of this very real life, and you're betting on an afterlife that nobody has ever seen as much as a glimpse of.

That was tolerance until you got to the end.

"IMO" is not "tolerance?"

No, I meant the "crap" and "fairytale nonsense" bit. It was about as tolerant as a spitting cobra is.

Tolerance means you let people do something.

That's one definition. But a different definition is used whenever people protest outside an abortion clinic, or have anti-gay protests. The protesters are letting people do what they want, so they're tolerant by your definition. But they're always called "intolerant". And that is the definition I was using in my post. Gareth was intolerant in the same way anti-abortion and anti-gay protesters are.

then telling people your views through your religious glasses would be excactly the same, while i personallly would love to be able to condemn religious views like that there is no justification to do it.
you might not realize it but that feeling you have at those words are how i feel in the face of most religious comment, it debases a perfectly good reality with its nonsense

Wasn't it Lenin who thrust his fist up angrily toward Heaven just before dying? Just like Job's wife's brilliant advice to her ailing husband: "Curse God and die".

"A belief held with strong conviction despite superior evidence to the contrary."

Quick question: what's that the definition of, religion or delusion? Or is there just no difference?

So the old testament is OK to quote if it fits your agenda, but if "we" do it you can ignore it? OK, taking notes.

So it is acceptable for you to call all atheists foolish in this very thread but you bleat and cry when someone implies that your cherished delusion is 'fairytale nonsense'?

Double standard much?

God is on his side, double standards and hypocrisy do not apply

To be religious all you need is faith which is stronger then any form of skepticism all the insults about my faith will not change my mind or convert me to being non religious I would be willing to die for my faith I can't say many people would be willing to die for being a non theist.

That's because not being a theist removes a lot of lunacy from the mind of an individual

Faith is stronger? I think faith makes people weaker. You admit your fate as god's will rather than as something you can and should fix. It is the definition of weakness.

The lord works in mysterious ways.

Why can't people just accept other peoples beliefs? I am sick and tired of "You're going to burn in hell for eternity!" and "Religious people are so stupid!" Christians and athiests do it just the same. I am also sick of people using TRAGEDIES like SCHOOL SHOOTINGS to say "This is why we need prayer in schools." School shootings happen for many different people! 9/11 happened because of religious intolerance! My own religious beliefs is to find your own path, much like paganism but I don't believe in what they believe.
Atheists will stop saying religious people are stupid if you kindly stop trying to push laws that enforce your religious' rules and beliefs as facts for moral law and education. Specially, keep of everybody else's sex ed, reproductive rights and right to learn evolution. Thanks.

Well I hope you never are faced with the choice of dying for something that doesn't exist. But at least you'll die happy I suppose
