Isn't that a fairly standard action from the police though, where they're expecting some form of protest?
They recognise and try to accommodate the right to protest, but not to the extent of it disrupting proceedings.

This is the funeral of an old lady, not some sort of arms shipment passing through where there might be a more pressing reason to disrupt or stop it.
Turning their backs as the coffin passes says quite enough.

This. Though why they'd want to go to the trouble of doing something like that says more about their own vindictiveness than anything else. Far better to ignore her funeral and get on with life.

I'm sure they'll be laughing and cheering in the Republican Arms up in Provoville tomorrow, though. Chance to have Happy Hour for them I guess. They will pay for their cheap pint of Guinness using pounds and pence. :D

The majority of funerals that Westboro Baptist Church protest at are private funerals.
A peaceful and respectful protest at a public funeral of a public figure, I do agree with!

Now really if they were truly worried about protests at Thatcher's public funeral, then why the hell didn't make a private one in the first place.

I would wager that most of the rent-a-gobs that will turn up won't want to be reasoned and respectful, though.

With public accessibility for most of it, or at the very least within sight or sound of it - so there's little practical difference WRT offensively disturbing proceedings.

As do I, although ignoring it entirely says more - but I think Tequila is correct about the type who will turn up.

People should sing "Ding Dong the witch is dead" as the procession passes, yes.

Max Kaiser is not a fan of Thatcher. What do you think.
