I don't have kids but I would definitely foster or adopt rather than have my own biological children.

"Adoption romanticists"?

Does such a thing really exist?

I'd love to see the "research" that suggests adopted kids are more likely to commit suicide.

TO BE CLEAR, PLEASE POST LINKS RIGHT HERE TO RESEARCH SUGGESTING THIS. I'M SURE THEY ARE ALL VERY SCIENTIFIC.

It's better than abortion, atleast.

^So it's better to have PTSD from years of abuse than being aborted?

Giftorcurse, don't go there, you can't reason with people who are determined to play the anti-abortion card as justification for adoption.

I did used to be against adoption since my own didn't work out.

However, just recently I have changed my mind.

There are a lot of genuinely good people out there, who for what ever reason cannot have children and so they go down the route of adoption.

It is true that (as in my case) for some adoption is the wrong course of action, but for many children it is the chance for them to have a proper family and a stable home life.

Adoption worked out reasonably good for me. From what I can gather I had a much better upbringing than those brought up in children's homes or foster homes. The thing that puzzles me is why Giftorcurse is so obsessed about adoption considering he isn't even adopted!

This may be a bit off-topic, but I found it interesting when reading about the Roman Empire how common adoption was back then, and how it was used to increase the power and prestige of the adoptee. Many Roman Emperors were adopted by their predecessors. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Adoption_in_ancient_Rome

Your lack of first hand experience seems to impair your perception of adoption; maybe all you know of it are the cases that go badly wrong that hit the newspapers occasionally, hence your negative perception of it. I'm sure adoption works well for the 95% of children who you never hear anything about.

My Aunt and Uncle adopted me.They were the kindest and most patient people ever. They never once yelled at me or made me feel bad about myself.I was very lucky to have them as parents. The only drawback was they were elderly and not in good health, the only reason the judge let them adopt me at that age was becuse they were relatives and I had been with them since birth. Both passed before I was fourteen, then life really sucked for a considerable period of time.

Statistics can be bought. A harsh truth about adoptive parents that no one wants to admit is that they didn't adopt for any altruistic motive. They're in it for their own agenda.

What about biological parents? There is a selfish part to just about everything people do. If people decide to have a child, it is because of their own desires. At least with adoption you know for sure that they made a conscious decision, biological partents could just have had an "accidental" child.

^Yeah, but the chances of an adoptive parent abusing/neglecting their purchase dramatically increases.

Source?

Plenty of parents abuse their own biological children for their own messed up reasons.
Plenty of adoptive parents do the same.

There is even a lesser chance of the parents abusing the children if it was adopted because most of the times this are parents that cant bare their own children and have to fight hard to adopt one. Parents that" just had one" are likelier to take it for granted.
