This is also where I think professionals get a bad rap and where populism seems to brush the elites aside as sort of blind, self-interested robots. Psychiatry is an area where a large part of what is done is trying to fix a person for our comfort more so than theirs. We still seem to have really shoddy definitions of what constitutes 'normal' and all of this at a time where, in 2017, the foundations of science are under attack by all sorts of intersectional political groups as patriarchal, oppressive, etc. it almost seems like the broader public environment is getting that sick that people who don't have DSM-V diagnosable problems can barely tell up from down let alone people who actually need help in one way or another.
