I tend to assume the parents are bad news. I see child abuse as the root cause of most of these shootings (or attempted shootings). Nothing bad has come out about the parents yet though so I could be wrong.

Whenever someone is described as mentally ill by their parents I'm wondering what "type" of mentally ill are they referring to. Sometimes the word "mentally ill" gets used as a euphemism for anti-social/violent. Nobody wants to describe their own child that way especially if they were the ones who caused it. I'm jumpting to conclusions as usual so don't jump on me. It's just my opinion.
