John claims to have been transported to "The Lord's Day" to write this book, the Lords day being his second coming, the destruction of "The Beast" and the establishment of Jesus rulership over the world.
Other Old Testament books help understand the book of Revelation, popular thought considers the "Beast to be Satan, but Revelation 12 tells us Satan is the "Dragon" who creates the beast in his image and gives it its power and authority. Think counterfeit Kingdom of God that will be led by Anti-Christ rather than Christ.
The book of Daniel explains what biblical "Beasts" are, they are Kingdoms or Governments, the "Horns" being individual kings leading these governments, for instance, one of the beasts of Daniel had a large horn that broke and four smaller horns appeared in its place, Daniel interpreted this beast to be a future Greek empire, the large horn being Alexander the Great who died and then his Kingdom was split up between his four generals.
If you add up all the separate Beasts heads and horns of Daniel, you get the seven heads and ten horns of the single beast of Revelation, that is thought to be all the separate Kingdoms of the World joined on to a single body, Global Government, "New World Order".
I think it is Revelation 17 that states the ten horns of the Beast are ten kings who give their power to the single beast.
One of the heads of the Beast was considered to be the European Union, but that would seem to be falling apart now with Brixit, but read what Revelation 13 verse 3 says, one of the heads has a death stroke but revives or comes back to life.
Back in the days of Nimrod and Babylon there was a Global Government with a global God defying religion, a pattern for things to come.
Babylon the Great is said to have control over the worlds governments in these last days according to the last verse of Revelation 17, read the works of British Prime Minister Benjamin Disraeli for his views on who really controls our governments, International Banking, interesting to read in Revelation 18 that when Babylon the Great is destroyed by God, the whole worlds economy comes to an end. People used to think Babylon the Great was the Catholic Church because it had a kingdom over the Kings of the Earth in the Dark ages, but Revelation is written about the end times, not the Dark ages, the Catholic Church doesn't own the likes of the IMF.
