Not that I have observed.

You are correct. Recently, there has been an influx of neo-libertarians who do not seem to possess the level of empathy or social responsibility as their founding fathers. When I think of libertarians, I still tend to think of the older ones.

Like who?

Do you mean Ron Paul? The old Ron Paul newsletters were full of racist trash.
Do you mean Ayn Rand? She said that the conquest of North America was a good thing. She also admired a serial killer.
Do you mean Murray Rothbard? He encouraged police brutality. He stole the word "libertarian" from the far-left and then he boasted about it. He was into racialist pseudoscience. He supported "securing the border". Keep in mind that this guy was the first person to call himself an "anarcho-capitalist". What a horrible person.

The "libertarian" movement has always been a far-right movement posing as a centrist movement. Reasonable "libertarians" like Penn Gillette and Michael Shermer have always been a rarity.

It's always the loudest and most controversial who are heard. No. I am speaking of ones who are not famous who I have had personal experience with.

Concerning Ayn Rand, I strongly disagree with her views, as I'm not a libertarian, and she was, in my opinion, a very uncaring, hypocritical person. I will say, however that her economic and political ideologies were formed in the face of the upheaval of Russia as it transitioned from peasant empire to soviet styled communism, and the contrast with the relatively economically prosperous free market U.S. at the time. Given that, I understand why she thought a free market economy was better.
