Anyone remember that episode in Hey Arnold when he and his friend Gerald try to do a Halloween prank on his family. They set up a fake radio announcement on the roof and do a fake breaking news report about aliens landing and they had the water tower decorated to make it look like a space ship and had it be lit up by one of their friends.

But instead the signal got picked up by a radio station and they fell for it and started broadcasting it and then other people heard and then the whole area was in panic. Then Helga and Phoebe and their classmates who happened to be aliens for Halloween were being chased by an angry mob. Arnold tries to tell everyone there were no aliens and it was all a hoax but no one listens. Only people who listened was his grandfather.

No one knew it was all a hoax until they busted the water tower.

My how I had no idea people were this stupid in real life. I thought this was only on TV but gee you have to wonder where the creators get these ideas.

That episode was actually referencing a real thing...

are you familiar with The War of the Worlds? It was a radio broadcast, meant as fictional sci fi about aliens attacking. Well people mistook it for a real news broadcast, I think some people even committed suicide over it thinking they'd have a worse fate if the aliens got them. This was back in the 30's. So yeah that hey arnold episode I think was referencing that, though the real life broadcast was not intended as a prank it was just meant to be entertainment.

In short, the notion that the War of the Worlds program sent untold thousands of people into the streets in panic is a media-driven myth that offers a deceptive message about the power radio wielded over listeners in its early days and, more broadly, about the media’s potential to sow fright, panic, and alarm.

... a troll on 4chan.

Never saw that one coming, now did we?

I think the best way to describe it was a collaborative writing project. I don't think Q was all one person, it was probably a bunch of trolls who picked up on the original idea and ran with it.

Actually, this guy - despite countless of other candidates - can probably now claim the elusive title as the "Best Troll Ever", as his shenanigans came close to dismantling the US government.

That's over the top. The riots were shameful, but to say a ragtag group of protesters with no clear agenda could literally overthrow the American government is highly dramatic. Don't buy into every narrative you hear (whether it be Q or what the people who operate the official mouthpiece tell you).

Orson was a odd character, I wonder if he was on the spectrum.

A pioneer "troll" exposing the gullibility of Americans, becoming infamous, scoring movie deals where he trolled newspaper tycoons while making cinema art, ventually it caught up with him though and he was blackballed and his notoriety faded and he died a obese and forgotten man.

I have no idea what that means. I don't understand what you're trying to convey there. :| hey, you know its not playing fair when you throw word riddles and metaphors at a diagnosed autist. Lets keep it literal please. Also i find the circus that is american politics tiresome, now i'd rather talk about my special interest, orson welles, you know, i could talk for hours and hours about his creative genius.

QAnon even gained a bit of a foothold over here, despite Mr Fart being really not our president. According to The Guardian, the British believers were a thoroughly unlikely alliance. Let's see: people who think 5G cellphone masts cause Covid 19. Anti-vaxxers, natuarally. Far-righters angry that Brexit hasn't given them carte blanche to lynch the "lesser races". (Some of these were 100% literal fascists, going by the BUF flag they were waving.) Far-lefters who blame "the Jewish Lobby" for Jeremy Corbyn's downfall. And followers of David Icke, who believe that the Royal Family are nine-foot-tall lizard-men from Sirius. Truly, an inspiring meeting of minds!

They also believe that Biden and Harris are puppets to the deep state to create a one-world government by turning America into a communist/socialist utopia.

In which case, the metaphorical Bluebird of Happiness did fly past your house today, bearing the gift of a chance to legitimately bring up Orson Welles in conversation!

So it was exaggerated. As years went by, people read the story and assumed the whole entire US was in panic when it was just that area where the story took place.

Remember the game of telephone.

The more things change, the more they stay the same. A new emperor has been crowned, the bread and circus continue. All is well with the world. And the world keeps on turning.

Does anyone else feel America is the most brainwashed delusional gullible and arrogant people on the planet? is that a fair observation to make or would that be considered an unfair incendiary attack. In all fairness if anybody want to attack my country and it's culture (U.K.), go ahead , have at it, i promise you i will not break down and cry and take it personal and get pissy about it.

Now i feel i'm swerving off topic, lets get back to discussing the prodigal greatness that is Orson Welles.

To be clear i have many, many, many "special interests." They change and rotate and my interests mutate and evolve. As heraclitus once said " "No man ever steps in the same river twice"

I thought the topic of this thread was Q-anon. If you'd like, you may wish to experiment with starting your own threads. Try it.
