So...'eh' is a 'confirmational'?

Therefore the American equivalent would be 'ya know?".

I think the only Canadian stereotypes I can think of off the top of my head is being overly nice/polite...that and not being able to drive  but in all fairness, I live in Michigan and we all act like aggressive jerks here and drive like that as well. I'm not sure what it is with the driving...I think it's how people in Canada pass cars on the highway and how people in my state do. It's different in a way that annoys people from Michigan. Not that we're right... it just does.

As for eh... Yeah, I thought that was a given truth about Canadians. People in my state will say 'eh' as well, but it's a lot more common in the U.P. than the lower peninsula. Still, a lot of us do say eh here as well.

I think I just saw the place I'd love to move to if I can retire early (Kelowna, BC):

Parts of the US use 'eh?' in the same way as Canadians.
It shows up as hey or eh or ay in a number of English dialects, not just Canada and the US Great Lakes region.

Some non-English languages have similar features (including Scots).

For what it's worth, where I am in Ontario I hear it almost as often used in the Goodfellas manner as in the Bob and Doug McKenzie manner.

If you want some real fun, try to figure out what lah means.

This is completely consistent with its usage in Chinese. :lmao:

The other thing I discovered back in summer of 2019 (squeezed that trip in just before the mess went down) - Kamloops and Hope are quite charming towns. I'm going to keep propagandizing my friends to go back to Banff camping with me so I can get that proper hike of the Lake Louis trail that I was denied by the tour bus last time, maybe even rent a car and spend as long as I f'ing want staring at Lake Moraine from the rock pile too, walk the whole perimeter of the lake, maybe even get a pit of canoeing in, rather than worrying about when the shuttles run.

Kamloops is pretty mundane. If it weren't to visit a close family friend once in a while, none of us would ever go there. It's just.. meh. Hope is never a destination for me, more like just a place to stop for gas & maybe a meal at the Home Restaurant where they serve massive portions of really good quality comfort food. I have seen from a high school acquaintance on FB that there are a bunch of old train tunnels known as the "Othello Tunnels," that look like a neat little hike - might have to stop and check them out someday.. but for now, Hope is mainly just the last pit stop on the highway to fuel up to get back home.

Kelowna is one of the premium spots in the BC Interior for sure.. biggest city in the area, has an international airport, is on Okanagan Lake etc. Nice little city. Super expensive now that so many retirees from the Vancouver area and oil money from Alberta have moved in there. It's also a hot spot for drug/human trafficking crime - all the major gangs have a foothold there.. international airport, small city/big town with a pretty weak police presence = perfect opportunity for criming. It's still overall really nice, though.

I dunno if there are any Canadian stereotypes at all, really.. but we have all the same common ones as America & most countries.. Sony, Sharp, JVC, Panasonic, blah blah blah - there's tonnes of different ones.. shelf stereos, car stereos..

Not to mention Samsung.

Like Americans, NO Canadian would ever own stereo of any type actually made IN North America (cause they dont exist)! Lol!

That we're all long-haired hippies who sit at the park and smoke weed all day.

Now....I've never heard of a Canadian stereotype like that. If anything, Canadians are supposed to be rather conservative.

Only East of the Rockies. BC is full of long haired weed smoking yoga pants wearing hippie types. We're the Californians of Canadians.

Canadian stereotypes are better than American stereotypes?  Like:

Canadian apology: "I'm sorry!"  "No, I'm sorry!"
American apology: "F**** OFF!"  "No, you F**** OFF!"

Canadian courtesy: "Here, take my seat."
American courtesy: "GET YOUR A*** OUTTA THAT CHAIR!"

Canadian greeting: "How's it goin', eh?"
American greeting: "WHAT THE F**** YOU LOOKIN' AT?"

Canadian cooperation: "Hold my beer, eh?"
American cooperation: "Hold my gun, ok?"

Does anyone have more such comparisons?

Not quite true, the Whites failed and the Bolsheviks won.

Sorry aboot the White House. I guess you shouldn't have burnt York, eh?
It was actually British Regulars who burnt the White House but we've been both taking credit and apologizing for it ever since.
