Why do schools in the US want to teach sexual literature?

If they don't teach it, I wouldn't want to go there.

Also, NC-17-rated movies are the best!! !

Also, fornication should be mandatory, not illegal.

Probably has something to do with the presence of a teacher who's supposed to discuss the content of the book with the kids and guide their interpretation of the material.

The same piece of media could have a very different impact depending on the context you're exposed to it. For example, I wouldn't be comfortable with a teen girl reading Twilight on her own, but I'd be glad to read it with her and point out the red flags in Edward's behavior. (Well, except for the fact that I'd have to read Twilight to do that, but I'm willing to make sacrifices for a child's education.) Exposure to violent or problematic sexual content in fiction is a lot more acceptable if it's for educational purposes, because it's less likely that the kid will come out of the story thinking that behavior is OK.
