It's a possibility. You're not far from the arctic circle, the ability for you to dig tunnels is somewhat hampered by permafrost. If Mexicans dig tunnels to run drugs and cross the boarder, you can bet your sweet bippy that Americans have tunnels somewhere for their own survival or perhaps even nefarious purposes.

Canada has it's own version of 'rednecks,' I know. But, I really don't think they have anything resembling the US backwoods people. There are people who have no need for society, whatsoever. They hunt for all their protein, keep livestock and grow what they can't hunt. They don't need anyone, they don't leave the 'holler,' there's one way in and one way out. Do you have any idea how powerful that is?

I'm not one of these people. While I don't need society, and I can grow a garden, I don't hunt. The people that do are the ones who will survive. Guns are only a part of the equation and a not unimportant one, these people don't live in a wide open desert. Any ability to 'sneak up' on them is hampered by the landscape and generations of hiding; a lot like Al Qaeda if you ask me. I will probably die, but it will be with a smile on my face watching these societal rejects confound traditional warfare. Many of these people have a grudge, not about freeing slaves but about losing a war, in general. Those are the gun hoarders who plan never to be caught with their britches around their ankles again.

I just left from a 10 day vacation in Appalachia. I love it. I wish I'd paid more attention to the old ways of animal husbandry and farming when I was little. I still smile though, at their way of life. It's certainly not for everyone, especially someone who considers themselves too good to get their hands dirty. Mark my words, there will be a time when it comes in very handy.

I just don't feel the vast majority of people feel so politically strong that they would be wiling to live through the inconvenience of a Civil War.

Well, I am sure the US military will be quite effective. We don't need guns.

What is really curious is that the right is so open about their treason and their hatred for America. Timothy McVeigh is going to have a lot of company.

The Right doesn't hate America, they hate the left. And the Right can stand next to a Leftist if the ARMY attacks them, then everyone dies. Nobody is 'safe' in a Civil War... everyone loses. With the exception of bombers the industrious citizen can rustle up a lot of what the US armed forces can, including computer hackers. Bombing their own country would be counter productive, as even the US ARMY will require resources to survive. That's what I meant when I said the killing is just a part of it. There must be something left. For the ARMY to do what you think it will do to wipe out all the Right and leave the Left to carry on, they'd need to not care about themselves or their own families. That alone will be motivation to take sides. So, I think you're wrong. But, whatever helps you sleep.

Thing is there isn't going to be a Civil War, the military would likely shut down any attempts at starting one regardless of what side it was. In this case it is the right threatening that, so they'd probably focus their energies on stopping right wing militia groups that intend to do harm to the country and it's citizens to start said 'war'.

It would be like a right wing gun-nut uprising that the military could likely take care of, before it gets anywhere close to being a civil war.

I feel like the vast majority of people in the United States understand the upheaval which would be caused by a civil war.

It's somewhat close to the notion as to why there probably will never be a nuclear war. A nuclear war would cause the annihilation of all the known world.

According to google results, the city I live in is 2,629 km from the arctic circle. No permafrost here - we have palm trees on the beach and just posted temps of ~105F in the city and 121.3F in Lytton - which is a higher temperature than has ever been recorded even anywhere in South America.

The climate doesn't change over to ice and snow instantly when you cross the imaginary border line..

Even in the McKenzie River Valley of the Northwest Territories (above 60 degrees north latitude), it can get really hot. It's very cold in the winter there-----but warmer than Vancouver in the summer in most of the places in that area, except places on the Arctic Ocean coast.

I would be perfectly okay with there not being a civil war, like I said before, I don't think I'd survive. I was just responding to the title of the thread and saying what I think it would be like if it did happen.

You aren't inclined to dig a tunnel. People with an inclination and privacy are inclined to dig tunnels, cities don't provide much privacy.

You don't think there are tunnels in British Columbia? :? Vancouver is one of the biggest mining centres in the entire world. We don't just clear cut forests and rape the sea by overfishing, we Also tunnel into mountains to collect shiny metals and make toxic tailings ponds. Plenty of places to get underground if one wanted to.

Trump continues to claim that the election was not legitimate, in direct contradiction to mounting evidence from election experts, even the ongoing 'audits' his followers have commissioned.  Absolutely no evidence has emerged to reverse the election results in any state -- for instance, a June report by a Republican-led state Senate committee in Michigan found no evidence of widespread or systemic fraud.  Trump’s claims are based on distortions and mischaracterizations.  Once Trump stops making those false claims, CNN will have nothing to report on him

The Democrats continue to believe in the fairy tale of Russian Collusion in direct contradiction to all evidence and even reality itself. So its a phenomena not exclusive to Republicans.

Evidence of Russian collusion is contradicted only in the fevered imaginings of the MAGAs. Even Trump knows it's actually true.

If he does, I hope he knows that would mean all out war with America and her allies.

That makes sense, I just figure it won't end up getting to that point. I don't think I'd do too well in a war either so I suppose part of it is hoping there won't be one...but also I really don't think there are enough people willing to participate in a civil war.

I guess us on the left will be too busy with our bongs and sex toys to bother with a civil war, and not all the right wingers are on bored with joining a civil war. So I doubt there will be one.
