So, why isn't Pence a contender?

He’s a Christian extremist. Homophobic, misogynistic, and was riding with Trump for almost the entire presidency. Pence was party to 99% of Trump’s wrongdoing.

Charlie Baker, Larry Hogan, Phil Scott and Chris Sununu are the four I’d consider voting for against a weak Democratic candidate (if I had a vote). Kinzinger would be a possibility, as would Lisa Murkowski and a few figures who have stepped back a bit from politics like Jon Huntsman, Bill Weld, and Jeff Flake.

Asa Hutchinson is a bigoted idiot who I wouldn’t support. Clearing the very low bar of condemning Trump is not enough.

How is Asa bigoted? He welcomed immigrants and took on white supremacy?
I don’t agree with his stance on LGBTQ,
but sadly he has to represent his constituency.
He’s even called out bigots.

As you say, he’s also homophobic.

Away from explicit bigotry, he’s anti-abortion, supports the death penalty, has introduced work requirements for Medicaid, and his COVID response has been dreadful.

He was one of the first governors in the South to mandate masks.Daily Covid briefings begging people to get vaxxed.
Welcomes migrants. We have a large Hispanic population in northwest Arkansas and a large population of people resettled from the Marshall Islands.

Many republicans are pro-death and homophobic.

How many other Republican candidates walked into an armed standoff and negotiated?

I’m on Medicaid and no one has asked me to work.If someone is able bodied and getting temporary assistance then no reason why they can’t do some work.I don’t know one person that has been forced to.And most of this county is on benefits.
I have a family member incarcerated, where they were at was horrible. You have no idea. With one phone call to him I got my relative transferred to a work release and they are looking into what’s going on in the bad unit.

that's sort of what I was getting at: let him run, demanding the same top income tax he was advocating for in the 80s. - the US moved past his wildest dreams since then, and Reafan's wildest dreams sound pretty leftie today

EDIT this was a response to Misslizard not shlaifu.

LOl That’s for sure.At least he can keep his hands to himself and isn’t a horn dog like Clinton was.
I hope we get a progressive candidate like Bernie.
Asa would be better than Trump if it comes down to it.
Just please not Cotton. If he was POTUS right now we’d be in WWW3.

Looks like Nikki Haley will make a run for it. Bookmakers have her third place behind Trump and DeSantis.

Ah, right. He lowered the top federal rate to 50%, I believe it was. That would be an increase today.

So far as I can tell, throughout the whole Trump presidency Democrats considered him to be the LESSER of two evils compared to Pence. Just as extreme, but far more competant at turning his views into policy.
