I think that we are mixing up Source of Origins, Culture, Civilisation and Product, i.e Jeans may be manufactured in China, are of American Culture but originated in France. PC's may be manufactured in Korea but have their origin in the US but can be hardly argued as being a Korean culture.

However, in order to keep everyone happy on this Thread I am willing to argue that in fact there is no such thing as an American Culture since the only true American is the North American Indians.

(I am sure Billy the Budgie will prove me wrong on this)

I'm a simi-supporter of Bush. Like all humans, he makes mistakes. He's done stupid things, as do most human people. Just because he's our leader doesn't mean he has to be a genius. I really despise most of the culture here right now. It took so long to help New Orleans because all of the levels of the government were arguing over who's supposed to help who or do what rather than all going and helping. I personally think the government needs an overhaul, but that'll never happen.

What on earth is a "Moog"?

It was an analog music synthesizer built in New York in the 60's and 70's. It was used by Wendy Carlos for the "A Clockwork Orange" soundtrack, among others. Its popularity peaked in the late 70's. I think it was the brand of keyboard used in "Close Encounters of the Third Kind". A toy version was sold by Radio Shack in the early 80's. Then Roland and Yamaha basically took over the synth market.

I am fully aware of the terrible history of the British Empire, Sean, and offer no excuses for it whatsoever. However, this doesn't justify the actions of the US and its empire.

It may be America's Turn to become an Empire, and Empires are not createded by common consensus but by force, regardless of anyone elses approval or permission. Almost everyone else has had their turn, so why not the USA? What are you resisting? Britain may be experiencing the position of the less powerful.

I agree. Does anyone know if there has ever been a time in history when there has not been an empire in some form?

It depends what we mean by empire. If we mean America will continue to bully smaller countries to get its own way then yes it is and will continue to be an empire. If however we are talking about the traditional meaning then no America wont. They are struggling to keep any sort of control in Iraq and Afghanistan and couldnt defeat the vietcong into submission so any notion of them being able to take over large parts of the world are fanciful at best.

Can someone on this Forum connect the Katrina Event, Iraq, and the Empire building scenario of the US to Chaos Theory and the concept of Complex systems and Bifurcation points?

I'd like to see your point of view on this.
