Religious folks are of course welcome to debate with us, there is no hostility. However, I would argue that those of religious persuasion tend to be less intelligent or rational than those who hold atheist or agnostic views, and as such, will feel overwhelmed by our candor.

Oxymoron.

I'd actually argue that theism is more rational than deism. Deism is completely built on emotions, with no rationality.

This has certainly not been the impression of the religious of WP.

Well, that's probably true. Either way, it means that PPR is not a random sample and therefore not a good way to draw conclusions about the religious beliefs of people with ASDs.

I think that's because they're not actually willing to open up their world-view for debate. Many go for religion because it provides a sort of safety blanket with which to deal with the world. They come in here not to have an honest debate, but to try and reinforce their world-view. When we destroy any logical argument they attempt, they may take that as hostility, but really it's just honest debate. I can't speak for atheists, but as an agnostic, I am comfortable not knowing, and considering alternative possibilities, and would urge the religious to do the same.

I am a rational Catholic, but very open to being around
people of different faiths/non-believers.

Scorpileo said what I was about to say.

And I agree with AutisticMalcontent's reasons
why so many Aspies are agnostic/atheist.
The one where Aspies NOT being brought up
in a religious environment is the most likely reason.

However, the "burned-out" cause has some pluses/minuses to it.

Agnostic although Wiccan and Gnostic sound pretty hip.

One interesting aspect of being Jewish is that one can be quite religious (I am not all that observant myself) and still be a critical thinker. Judaism is a religion where one is not encouraged to park his brains outside the synagogue before entering. In fact, one is very encouraged to question and clarify his religious thinking.

This is one of the reasons I plan to be Jewish all my life.

Let me introduce you, my friend, to Neo-paganism.

Hrmph, let's see... I clicked spiritual, mostly because well, although i do have a thing for logic and the like (and technicly being a christian), my mind also likes fantasy, so i do believe to some extent to some myths and fantastic creatures (i also like finding out the truth about them, or how they came to be, that must be my logic side <.< ).

Myths are one of my huge interests even though I don't believe in them.

Pretty fascinating especially Celtic and ancient Egypt mythology!

also I come from cristen background but it wasn't pushed on to me.. well I wouldn't let anyone push their view upon me.

I have came to my conclusion about most religions sharing god(s) because religions have too many simularaties to ignore.

whilst I am christen i don't follow the usal cristen way of existing although I do go to church and to a bible study.

on the bible.. I think that a lot of it is correct but there is a lot of errors which I think are caused by poor translation down the centuries.

I'm a very eclectic pagan. (Could we please have some acknowledgement that not all pagans identify as Wiccans?)

I really don't like labels, so I can't consider myself anything. Some people would say I must be an Athiest because I don't believe in Gods or deities, but some people would also consider me Buddhist or Taoist because I believe certain Eastern philosophies, while others might say I'm more Shamanist since I support the use of entheogens.

All I can say for sure is that I don't support the concept of organized religion at all because it limits people and generally has no spiritual benefits other than teaching people submissiveness. It's way better to think for yourself and learn from experience.

If I were not already Jewish, I would be a good natured Pagan. Yes, I agree that not all Pagans or Wiccans. Some Pagans are fair minded folk who follow some version of the Golden Rule without worshiping unseen beings.
