Maduro’s huge salary hike deals fatal blow to 40 percent of Venezuelan stores

Nearly 40 percent of all Venezuelan stores have closed their doors — some of them perhaps permanently — after the government of President Nicolás Maduro increased the minimum salary by nearly 3,500 percent in one fell swoop, according the National Council of Commerce and Services of National Council of Commerce and Services of Venezuela.

Many of the companies, which had been barely surviving the gradual collapse of the economy, saw the salary increase and other changes announced last month as the fatal blow in a string of policies that have been gradually strangling their operations.

I want to believe what you say but your posting history strongly suggests we would be falling for a fake news trick if we did

I don't care. It has no relation to what Democratic Socialists want to do in the US.

Yes, it has been tried. And it fails every time.

Much as «PraegerU» may be a «popular» source of information, contrary to the claims against absolute-despotism mentioned in this video-presentation, PraegerU also ironically has a cop-promoting video where the police are glorified as-if though they were the good guys in society who should have some «absolute-monopoly» on the use of force-or-violence against everybody else (amongst within has a message which is essentially: Comply or DIE!).

Also, regarding so-called socialism, and so-called communism, a number of Venezuelan students put out a video some years back referring to these regimes as DICTATORSHIPS who operate in the «guise» of so-called socialism (which is just another word for communism). Although even their video may not necessarily be 100% accurate either (but whose is unless you're God and director), I think it is worth a review, and re-visit as follows...

Why do all socialist nations become dictatorships? Maybe cause the socialism system lends its self to that as it gives complete control of everything to the government and ultimate power corrupts ultimately.

It's Socialism for the 21st Century!

Venezuela Has Lost 13% of its Population in the Mass Exodus from Socialism

Venezuela's humanitarian crisis is causing refugee flows that may exceed those of the Syrian Civil War.

There are no signs that the mass exodus from Venezuela will abate any time soon (EFE).

Venezuela has lost more than 13% of its population in the wake of the mass wave of migration caused by the so-called “socialism of the 21st century”, which has had dramatic effect on the other countries of the region due to the serious humanitarian crisis.

Official figures from the International Organization of Migration (IOM) indicate that between 2015 and 2017, Venezuelan emigration more than doubled, increasing from 700,000 people to 1.5 million.

The Great Depression, the Great Recession of 2008. I think that's all the rebuttal I have to make. Capitalism collapses all the time.

I think you are meant to just be posting pictures or links to show what you think by borrowing someone else's opinion. Formulating and posting your own thoughts seems to go against the grain of this thread.

Human nature. All societes build unequal power structures. This is totally unavoidable because we always seek to dominate our fellow man. We haven't changed much since the apes and will never will.

Over 200 years and our republic has t become a dictatorship it yet every socialist nation became a dictatorship in less then 10 years. Maybe it’s cause under socialism the government has all the power and controls every last aspect of society and gives all that power to one single person who won’t want to give it up. Our system is set up to avoid giving too much power to one person.
And while we might eventually become a dictatorship as presidents keep adding more and more illegal powers it’s certainly taken a lot longer then Socialist nations

A president has far more power than a prime minister but he's on the one I'm concerned about. Not all power is political. Giving inordinate power to make a like-minded one percent is little better than giving to one man.

I'm not trying to defend socialism. I'm just trying to assert that a country without self-serving dominance is impossible.

Who has power over you, Sly?

Venezuela’s Health Crisis Is Crossing the Border
Desperate refugees spread malaria, yellow fever, diphtheria, dengue and tuberculosis to neighboring countries as health-care system implodes

MANAUS, Brazil—Contagion from Venezuela’s economic meltdown is starting to spread to neighboring countries—not financially, but literally, in the form of potentially deadly diseases carried among millions of refugees.

The collapse of Venezuela’s health system has turned what was once Latin America’s richest nation into an incubator for malaria, yellow fever, diphtheria, dengue and tuberculosis, as well as the virus that causes AIDS, medical officials in Brazil, Colombia and Venezuela told The Wall Street Journal.
