How much of the US population is 30 million? About 10%. So that means the US has a 90% rate of people with health insurance. That is fantastic.
So why not just do free government health insurance for those 10% of the people who are in need rather than dragging the other 90% into a system they don't want?

The Club of DC elites don't work for the people of the United States. Trump wasn't in the Club and wasn't working to expand their wealth and power so he was the enemy.

74 million others voted for Trump, also.

The problem seems to be with conservative Democrats.
They think the present health bill is way too expensive and won't support something they think is irresponsible.

As logical as that sounds, there is no way to sell it. Conservatives quickly kill anything that goes in that direction. Too much of a "hand out" or "socialism." Also difficult to define, difficult to keep honest. And there is the overlay with all the independent state medicaid systems, all with their own ideas about who is and who isn't deserving. Politics really can make anything complicated, can't it?

I always thought the easy answer was to give people the option to buy into Medicare on a sliding scale, "ability to pay" basis, but it seems that is believed to be too much of a foot in the door towards a national single payer system, and is vehemently opposed by conservatives. Politics, ugh.

You are mixing apples and oranges.

The current negotiation is for a "soft infrastructure" bill, NOT healthcare expansion. Although there might be a few small provisions in "soft infrastructure" designed to fill in healthcare gaps, it really isn't a healthcare bill. Its the same bill we talked about last week, with internet/telecommunications, sick leave, childcare, job training, climate change mitigation, et all included.

Most of the current healthcare gap comes from a few places:

(1) The ACA was designed for states to improve coverage through their state systems on the low income end, and they would receive federal money to do so. Many states rejected this, leaving many wage earners falling into the crack between what they can afford, and the level of poverty needed to qualify for state assistance.

(2) Some people choose to do something else with their funds, despite being able to afford their insurance amounts on paper, and there no longer is any financial penalty for not choosing healthcare. For some, the formulas simply overstate their ability to pay. For others, its almost a protest; a statement of choice.

(3) Lack of accurate information on how to enroll and what financial assistance is available. Withholding information and shortening the open enrollment period was one of the ways the Trump administration was trying to "starve" the ACA. The Biden administration is advertising heavily in the hopes of reversing this, but it remains a complicated topic that a lot of people just don't really understand.

Trump was in a Club, but his club centers more on himself and those who he considers loyal solely to him. He did, in fact, end up expanding the wealth and power of "the" club to which you refer, as well. You and I aren't in either club.

From all I saw while Trump was president, the things he said and wanted to do FROM HIS OWN MOUTH, he is a clear enemy of Democracy and a lover of autocracy.

The elites who are willing to step away and call it as they see it have more to lose doing so than to gain.

The outsider status and line is a convenient lie. It gets thrown out with every criticism, not matter how valid.

Both Australia and Canada have a better, more equitable working health system.
Are the Amerians too arrogant to adopt something similar?

at least 74 million americans are perfectly fine with the POC and poor just dying off. i've heard it right from the horse's mouth way too many times to deny. so that particular political cohort is indeed too arrogant to help the others born less fortunate than those silver spoon types.

Politics in healthcare should be a crime . Humans deserve healthcare . If the politicians are
against it , then "they " should be made to live without it , in any form whatsoever , i feel. :ninja:

call it hyperbole or whatever but that does not diminish the truth of it, one entire political party of ableists long have called folks like me "deadwood" and "riffraff."
