Immigration and asylum got the U.S. its atomic bomb with which the Pacific War was ended without the forceful invasion of Japan. The A-bomb was made mostly by scientists who fled Europe for several and sundry reasons.

Immgration and asylum also enabled us to get our rocket program off the ground.

Prior the the late 1930's the U.S. did not have a first rate theoretical science establishment. Even smart Americans like Robert Oppenheimer had to go to Germany to learn quantum physics. With a sufficiently liberal immigration policy we inherited the cream of Europe's intellectual establishment.

Not to mention getting to the moon.

Correct. The Apollo J-5 was a Vengence Weapon on steroids.

As von Braun once said: I aim for the stars but sometimes I hit London and Antwerp.

And, as stated earlier, one of my all-time favorite scientists was an immigrant: Nikola Tesla.

Invented wireless transmission and alternating current (not to mention the Tesla coil), was one of the first to consider the world in wave forms and resonant frequencies, was best friends with Sam Clemens, and contributed so much to science that some of his ideas are only now, in the last couple decades, being validated (including wireless/nonphysical transmission of electrical power).

The dynamics of culture topic

It must be remembered that culture and ethnicity are not synonymous. Culture (tools, technology, inventions, education, economics, language, etc) is a human invention that everyone in the world can use and benefit from, no matter what ethnic group origin, gender ID, sex, physical appearance, or challenge a human demonstrates. All human culture is to be shared with other humans, no matter what country they happen to live in, or one to which they emigrate.

As other posters have written, immigrants bring useful contributions that we would never have if they did not immigrate and share with the host country what they have to offer.

Some of the posters here are only looking at the negative aspects such as terrorism, disease, crime, etc. As ruveyn wrote, with the good comes the bad, and societies function best when they encourage the good in all peoples, and work to uncover the origins of the bad qualities and strive to turn the negatives into positives.

Idealism? Indeed. We need it. 8)

By 2050 there will not be a "European" or (gasp) "White" country on the face of the earth.

The English, French, Germans, Americans, Swedes etc will all be minorities within their own countries.

But China will still be 99.9% Chinese and Japan will still be 99.9% Japanese etc.

I know! Lets dump on the Japanese!

You Japanese have an aging and declining population.

You should import millions of African Muslims! They are overpopulated and you need people, right?

You should allow yourselves to be replaced by African Muslims otherwise you are RACISTS!! !! !!

Let's import Chinese and Japanese. Ooops we did. Chinese labor was a large component of the labor force that built our transcontinental railroad system (here in the U.S.).

Asian immigrants have been (on balance) Good News for America.
