My biggest reason for not being a Christian is the bible is inconsistent. When God made Eve, He made her from Adam's rib, yet He also made them at the same time. I don't feel like looking up the exact scriptures so I can quote them, but it is in Genesis and maybe another book. This lack of consistancy is something I was never able to overcome. If I could overcome this, maybe I could learn from the bible and apply it in real life. Real life is seldom consistant, making it remarkably difficult for me. I tend to use the Scientific Method to work things out; unfortunately, this method doesn't work with people as I understand it. But anyway, the bible is bullpucky. Those are strong words, but it is a strong opinion of mine.

Its a way to escape responsibility..

Its a way to hide from the fact that the more you pursue wisdom in something, the more it hurts.... To blame this on some deity or something when its simply the way conciousness MUST work.

Lets stop calling those that aren't christian atheists ok?

My god is among us, around us, within us.. My god is involved in all aspects of existence, if my god ceased to be so would you, my god is what is behind our emotions, evolution, physics, life and death and all our understandings so far of reality..

What would you call a god such as this?

Why do you need a reason for not believing?

As Morgan Freeman said in one of his movies, "God is an imaginary friend for grown-ups."

Thats exactly it, it focuses on the negative.

If I have to call myself anything I'll call it a REALIST.

I don't need a reason for NOT believing, I've never been given a reason for believing other than: " Believe or you will go to fu*king hell"

The biggest piece of proof that christianity is bull$hit is the fact that they have to force you at gunpoint to believe in it!! !!

I stopped going to church earlier this year because my pastor moved out of state and his successor is totally incompetent--he does not show up half the time.

But the real reason I question my faith is the rule about not having sex until marriage.

I refuse to follow a religion that condemns me for being who I am. I sincerely object to the cherry picking of teachings in the bible - the bald, shortsighted and folk without side burns come in for as much condemnation as gay folk in the bible but guess who the christians mobilse against?
The whole history of christianity is of violence, conquest, domination and oppression. Look what god fearing folk did in the crusades. Look what god fearing folk did in the inquistion.Look what god fearing folk did to the incas. Look what god fearing folk are still doing in the middle the east.
Christainity was built and maintained via non christian means.

I could broaden my diatribe to include other religions but the popst was about christianity.

I fear you may be right, and that the observation is hardly confined to Christianity.

The implications are not good.

An appeal to logic is short-circuited, as is any appeal to the majority opinion (the position of being part of the select or enlighted few having its own charm and strength).

Its funny isnt it...

Its various contradictions can't be contradicted because as soon as someone says "its a matter of faith" it becomes unquestionable..

As humans everything should be in question, how dare we claim to know of an afterlife, the whole point of death is its mystery..

(obligatory additional)

this is just my opinion of course.

1. "Seeing is believing. I've never seen God, so how do I know He exists?"

Nobody has ever seen the wind, but there is no doubt of its power. Nobody has seen history, but there is no doubt of its legacy. Nobody has seen a person's mind, but that doesn't make us mindless. TV and radio waves are invisible, but with the proper receiver, we can see their results.

Having never seen God is not much of a reason for rejecting Him, if you get right down to it. Let's see if we can do better.

okay, i can feel the wind, so i know it's there; i've studied TV and radio waves(i watch tv and listen to the radio) so it's pretty obvious that they're there. i can't see cold but i know when it's cold, it's cold.

i also don't like the fact that the bible contradicts itself in text. wouldn't god have gotten it right the first time?

The answer to this mistakes literal seeing for observing. Radio waves, wind etc. can't be seen, but they can still be observed. God cannot be observed. If we believed in everything that we couldn't observe simply on the promise of eternal happiness, we would be a messed-up species indeed.

ditto
