There's a difference between non-profit and interest. Banks must charge interest in order to generate revenue. Without revenue they cant pay employees or their infrastructure.

Our current fiat money system depends on interest revenue being non-stop... it is what allows the economy to grow.

Not true. Velocity of a fixed money stock could also support growth. Just keep the pot boiling.
