Does anyone else on this forum think that cremation is an evil satanic practice and should be banned outright? I am 35 years of age and have had this view since i was 8 years old. I just think it is a truly horrible thing to do the dead. Has anyone seen the pictures on the net of what it actually looks like when a body is being burnt, it is really frightening. I have had nightmares about it since i was 14. If anyone else feels the same way please leave a reply.

There are FAR too many interfering busy bodies around telling others what they should do or not do. If somebody wants to be cremated others should respect that wish and mind their own business.

I feel this way too. I just cremated my much loved pet rabbit and got told off by some God kissing person. Either have your own opinion on it or post in PPR because this is obviously more of a religious question than a general autism one.

Nope. My Grandfather is the only one in my whole family that doesn't want to be cremated. Also, I would love to see it.

It should NOT be banned. I actually prefer cremation over traditional burial. First of all, I'm terrified of open caskets and to this day, I will never attend a funeral that has one. Also, the thought of a body decomposing underground in a coffin disgusts me. I've also heard cremation is better for the environment, plus there are more options as to what to do with the remains. My uncle passed away from cancer a few weeks ago and we scattered his ashes out to sea. I also believe in reincarnation and since the ashes are brought back to Earth, that person has the chance to be reincarnated into something. I think thats why when Hindus die, they are cremated...they believe strongly in reincarnation.

So even though I don't like to think about the thought of dying, I've chosen cremation over burial. But half my family is Jewish and traditionally, cremation is forbidden in that religion so I don't know how they would feel over my decision. I'm not religious at all anyway. And there are more and more Jews being cremated today...Amy Winehouse is an example.

Sorry for my rant, but I don't think cremation is evil at all...I don't know why some think that!

I find cremation very violent in some way because they simply just BURN you, i don't like that idea. Tho i don't like being burried either because i'm afraid of being burried alive, any other ways of getting rid of my body? sigh, i wanna live forever.
i might freeze myself to be brought back to life after they discovered an anti aging pill.(i'll probably let that be created in my own lifetime)

Well while I might joke that I want a zirconium coffin with a bronze second coffin on top (that way aliens might be able to find me in 10 million years time and think I was king of the whole earth), I think that cremation may well be the best way to deal with my mortal remains. When I am dead I think that I would like to be cremated and then the ashes placed in a place which has special meaning to me.

Diagnosed under the DSM5 rules with autism spectrum disorder, under DSM4 psychologist said would have been AS (299.80) but I suspect that I am somewhere between 299.80 and 299.00 (Autism) under DSM4.

My thoughts exactly. This has nothing to do with the disorder. >.>

Well I have nightmares of a Zombie Apocalypse happening...I'd rather they be turned to ash. <.<
But in a seriousness, land is limited, cremation saves space. I think it's great that people care about the earth.

No way...I want to be cremated. I'm scared of being buried alive and the decomposition process is GROSS beyond belief. Anyone who has ever seen/smelled a decomposing body knows that. Shoot, burn my body any day once my brain is gone!

I think the OP is pretty hilarious - cremation? Satanic? What?

If, during cremation, the corpse sits up and writhes - then it's because the funeral preparers didn't do their job properly. The tendons of a body should be cut before burning. Otherwise, once burning begins, the tendons will basically shorten as they burn up, giving the impression that the body is moving about.

Case in point - when Rasputin's body was burnt, it was described as attempting to get up. Which led to people thinking that Rasputin was some demon in disguise. The reality: they didn't cut his tendons.

Religious people can't be bothered with actual facts such as these... Don't you know that? If it's not in the bible, it's demonic/satanic/whatever...

Personally I want to be buried after my death....BUT...I respect those like Hindus,Sihks, some atheists and those who just really fear burial who want to be cremated. What I do think is that noone should be cremated who in life wanted burial after death, and vice versa, noone who wanted a pyre should be buried.

The dead should be composted to return their nutrients to the world. Cremation and overly efficient caskets are unneccesarily wasteful.

And anyway, if you're Christian, isn't "you are dust, and to dust you will return" positively biblical? Why cheat God by clinging onto a body that is no longer a vessel for your soul? I'm sure Satan laughs with glee at such egotistical futility. Isn't pride one of the seven deadly sins?

I think I would like to just be chucked in a ditch and filled over, that way I could be of some use, not get burnt (that freaks me a bit) and not get withery and gnarly like if I was in a coffin. Pretty soon I would be a fine looking skeleton.
I think this is the most natural and normal thing and I hope I'm allowed to be buried this way.

Why is this in the General Autism Dicussion? Shouldn't it be in the random dicussion or the political debate fourms?

Hate to toss an old trope into this dark yet harmless topic BUT cremations are being looked at seriously and in depth as a major cause of mercury poisoning in the atmosphere thanks to dental amalgam. EPA has stringent laws and all crematoriums are required to retrofit chimneys with filters... the industry is looking hard at alternative methods of 'final repose'. One of the newest is a freeze drying process that allows for the reclimation of dental amalgams, promotes bio friendly decomposition while reducing a human body into a 6" square box of organic remains that can easily be spread safely in a garden at an extremely low cost.

I'm liking the new ideas! :) Organic and cheap for me.

Can't they just remove them first before cremation?

I don't have any mercury in my mouth and I knew someone who was cremated that didn't have any either. Their urn was buried with their husband in their husband's plot.
