one does not have to have a vocabulary of any kind in order to be considered conscious by me.

the simple witnessing of reality (in whatever aspect) by a being assures me that their life is valid. rocks do not witness any aspect of reality.

animals i believe are as full of "soul" as i am, and i value their lives just like i value my own.
animals are innocent and aware. what a winning combination.

We are animals. And other animals can talk. Gorillas have been taught sign language. Porpoises and whales are believed to have language. Most mammals have at least a body language if not a vocal one. Rudimentary perhaps, but they do constitute communication.
