I didn't intend this to refer to you. I agree, it appears to be a American christian thing.

All the public schools here teach evolution. So I would personally blame chuch indoctrination not the schools. Or possibly private christian schools.

^this.
We have too many school systems here that edit textbooks and purge them of anything that isn't approved of by the school board (or in some cases, state level education departments). Science and history tend to be the hardest hit. Over the years, there have been quite a few news stories, individuals taking videos of curriculum meetings, documentaries, etc showing some of the most extreme cases. Most of the worst I've seen were in the uber-conservative parts of Texas (but the absolute worst was in a small town in Indiana, where the one history textbook for grades 7-12 was written by a local and left out everything that could make the US look bad so that the children would love America and not be ashamed of it).

Why do people still try and suggest that the Theory of Evolution is in some way controversial? I think in the main it is because they have not bothered to learn about it and understand it correctly, most yecs take their knowledge from each other with no attempt to verify the claims made.

Some do actually read on evolution, understand the basic principles and then condemn it in preference to the supernatural these people are so delusional in regards to the bible that they cannot cope with the contradictions between the two.

For the person who earlier stated that he saw evolution as proof of gods glory, are you for real. Are you really willing to suggest that the omnipotent, omnipresence and omniscient god is that incompetent, Really? Have you observed the number of f**k ups in nature, take the human eye for example its backwards and upside down, requiring correction of the image before it gets sent to the brain for decoding. How about sexual reproduction is this really the best method god could come up with to pass on genes?

Yes, I am for real. Despite for evolutions false starts, and flaws in physical design in the end product, you still have pretty outstanding results. And as for problems with the human eye - can you provide a working alternative if you were making the ocular organ for a species? The Almighty lets nature do it's job, even though He's the maker of nature. I think the Deists with their notion of a clock maker god in certain respects may not have been that far off the mark.

The Bible is a book of tales and just-so stories. It is a bunch of stories collected by and for late bronze age dudes who thought the Earth was flat, that the sun went around the Earth and who did not know things are made of atoms.

So an all knowing, all powerful, all seeing deity requires the process of genetic mutation across the eons to form life as we know it. Genetic mutations have no plan, have no sense of the future, they survive only because they offer an advantage to the life form in which they have occurred. In fact in has been postulated that it is only by a few quirks in the history of evolution tha we are here at all. This hardly seems the practical, logical, rational approach such an entity would take in "making us in his image" let alone forming life on this planet.

Your reference to the William paley shows your lack off understanding of evolutionary theory. At least he has the excuse for making his analogy in 1802, a long time before Darwin published and almost 200 years prior to the mapping of the genome, what's yours.

Uh... I think you're missing the point that you and I are essentially on the same side regarding the advocacy of evolution as fact. Who cares if I believe believe the Almighty is behind it all?

But it seems to me, that its simply only teached upon the surface. If I take american evolution theory in a whole, then that leaves no other science left. Geology, Biology, Archeology, Physics, Chemics, ... everything our complete industrial worlds relies on, was wrong. People only take out stuff like dinosaurs, and do weird theories about it, bud dont see that its not only effecting a simply dinosaur, but as well the soil it lied in, the fragments and elements that are in that soil, ... So all these sciences grip in each other, and all our science and technique, that is working relies on them. So if the major theories of all of our sciences were untrue, how the hell could everything relying on these theories, then work?

If I wanted to get that all in consideration I had to believe in a god, with the attitude of kid doing doorbelljokes and telephonjokes to make fun out of people. "Harharhar...lets place some skeletons and fragments of sealiving creatures at a place where in the last 10.000 years haven´t been a see. Muharhar...and some old no-longer active volcanoes, on spots where there can be no active volcanoe, because of the underneath lava rift being on a spot, that would needed the tectonic plate of the vulcanoe 100.000 years to move. And then I will place some materials like oil and gas and coal that needs many 10.000 years to create them. And that I will burry under 4 km of soil. And to make it impossible to believe, that this 4 km of soil has been placed there in the last 10.000 years, I will burry some old ruins of celtic ruins directly under the surface, proving that these 4 km already must have had existed or else there couldnt be a village upon it. And then I will laugh on the idiots that try to find out, how the hell there could have been an active wood and swamp 4 km under earth, leading to the coal and oil existing, while at the same time there was a village 4 km above floating. And I will create system that actually leads to every year living special indicators in ice and other places....and then I will leave 250.000 of that...muharharhar.... And I will let them do them tests on mice and flies and other shortliving races, giving them indicators that tell them how many generations a certain mouse is related to another one. And I will give those same indicators into long living races...in a number that makes much, much more then 10.000 years. And I will create elements that need physical requirements for their existence... that dont acutally exist on earth. ^^ And I will add tons of metors impact on moon, showing that earth an moon must have been once in a middle of a great meteoral bombardement, that would have been deadly too human live if they already existed, as well as if those impacts were only 10.000 years old, they must have been easily to find on earth as well, because of them still being pretty near underneath the soil surface. Which they aren´t.

And after doing all these doorbelljoke, I run quickly behind the next corner, and hide myself and watch them laughing my ass off."

Sorry, but most european christian seem to have better things to do, then believe in an hormon-sick teenager god, that likes to make fun out of people. Its not that they dont believe in creation, but in creation in the way: "So its a physical and chemical rule, that every element tries to seek chemical combinations, that allows their outer electronic shell to have 8 electrons, which is a basic process of all chemistry, leading to molecules, leading to biology, leading to physics... But why? Who created that rule, that is essential for atoms and molecules, and so for absolutely everything from starts to human biology? Just as we know tons of rules for the existing materia. Which does not solve the riddle: Where came that materia from? Why does materia exist at all? Materia in itself is dead, so it cant simply decide to exist now, leading to big bangs, star systems, planets, life on planets, ... We know of the laws of gravity and can measure them and calculate with that...but that does not declare why this law of gravity, being as well essential for absolutely everything, finally exists?"

For them that does not mean that the story of genesis is a lie. But genesis is some thousend years of old. Its simply told in a way, that was understandable for humans with the knowledge background of some thousend years ago. Creation of light = as well the birth of suns. Creation of light = sun is something understandable for people some thousend years ago.. While "So I started all that creation by inventing some protons, electrons and neutrons. Then I created some laws of mass that leads to these protons, electrons and neutrons, starting to melt with each other, leading to different atoms. No, right now you cant see that, you will need some gear, that will only invented in some thousend years to see that, so stop asking questions and write that up the way I tell you. The laws of gravity I created would lead to these atoms gathering, and by themselves causing on each other that great pressure, that according to the physical laws I created, this would start to an process of atom fusion - I told you to stop asking me questions, and to simply write that up - leading to the great gasball radiating so much, that it allows to give earth light and warmth.... What do you mean with, we need to stop, because you got no more stone plates? I just started! Now go fast and get yourself a few hundert stone plates, because you will need that for my explanation, of how these laws and materia I invented caused the existence of land and sea..." I dont want to get myself into the discussion if there is a god or not. But it seems for me totally reasonable that a god wouldnt have talked some thousand years ago, about yet non understandable atom theory, but instead would have talked to them in a way that was understandable for them.

I cant see, what shall be so much lesser upon a god, creating a whole, complete, gigantic universe including all the physical and elementar laws, then upon a god playing minescraft on a little planet and adding some funny lights as decoration around the sky.

With sonofghandi's post above, I will stand corrected. I grew up and went to school in New England (liberal northeast) they did a good job teaching evolution. But apparently there are some real ratty schools across the Midwest, bible belt and the whole state of Kansas.

Ive heard of the Flat Earth Society for decades, but never examined them up close.

Always assumed that they were a put on. But from this site it looks like- there either a very involved put on,or theyre for real. It's hard to tell.
