While I do respect McCain's service in Vietnam, he is now as much of an a-hole as all in the Republican field are.

Yes, McCain is running for reelection here and I am ready to vote 'anybody but McCain' in the primary or general. There are a lot of people that hate McCain in this state and if he gets nominated again he could lose to the Democratic challenger who this cycle is Congresswoman Ann Kirkpatrick but he just has to worry about getting out of the primary right now.

Why do they hate him so much? Not tough enough on immigration issues?

Well immigration is probably the single most important issue to a lot of Arizonans but there are a lot of people that hate McCain for a lot of different reasons, just on a personal level McCain does not show any respect at all to his constituents and frequently mocks and disrespects them. He's a liar, he's a snake, he'll change his "principles" just in time for reelection.

Thats pretty hilarious.

The only thing I like about Trump is he seems to say he what he is thinking. Sometimes he is funny.

I just don't like all the thoughts that come from his head.

His problem is that he became too rich for his breeches.

To me everyone that serves honorably is a hero.

Well, he graduated at the bottom of his class in the naval academy.

He got shot down, crashed in swamp, captured.

When the VC figured out that he was an admiral's son, they tried to give him back. repeatedly.

none of the above is very heroic.

That he made the VC let a bunch of other guys go before he would leave their prison camp was kinda heroic.

Then later in life he married a rich broad and used her money to run for office essentially as a carpetbagger in arizona.

He said some admirable stuff but for a guy who was a POW he sure loves war.

He was up to his eyeballs in the savings & loan scandal in the 90's. He admits that. Called it his greatest sin. I know people who's lives were turned up-side-down by that.

Two words: Sarah Palin. I blame him.

He always seems to be ready to blow up some other country over whatever annoyed him regardless of whether we would gain anything by doing it. Like his repeated calls to bomb iran.

Oh, did you know that he went to syria to hang out with the "moderates" fighting the assad regime - moderates who later founded something called Isis? True story.

I don't care for his personal life or politics.I respect his service and his survice only.He was on his 23 mission when shot down.No one plans on getting captured,it happens. So what if he graduated last in his class, not everyone can be number one.

McCain is definitely the lesser of many "evils."

Today, it's spread out all over the news that #1 US presidential hopeful Donald Trump criticized John McCain's military service, stating that "he's not a war hero". OK, technically he's correct: McCain was captured and held POW for several years - so who did he save?? What act of heroism was he able to display while incarcerated?? Again, technically The Donald is right - BUT YOU JUST CAN'T SAY THINGS LIKE THAT!! !

It would be more accurate to refer to McCain as a determined survivor. But if the masses want to continue thinking of him as a "war hero", who the heck is The Donald to disrupt that??! My balanced and objective pair of pennies. :)

Well he's not a war hero...was a rescued POW, if the masses continue thinking he's some great war hero when he's not, I don't really see the harm in letting them in on the truth. Not saying he should have rotted fruit thrown at him and be mocked because 'oh you got captured by the enemy' but someone who's not a war hero should not be regarded as one....especially if they are using it as a platform to attempt to get more votes by misrepresenting their role in that war.

Any anything I have seen or heard of him, just makes him seem like a bitter old man who thinks the war never ended, may be apt to unnecessary preemptive strikes on other countries and seems to feel he has some entitled status just because he did serve...like having served makes him automatically deserving of the role of president at least that is the kind of attitude I've picked up on and wouldn't vote for someone like that.

He's pretty much a hero if he didn't rat out America while under North Vietnamese torture.

I wonder what he would have done with another military member....if they were captured and under pressure/torture let out some information to the enemy. Somehow I think he'd be screaming about their treason and treachery, of any politician I know of who has been in the military I have a feeling he is probably very, very out of touch with the majority of people in the military as well as veterens. I haven't heard him talk much about how the goverment needs to get their act together when it comes to providing support and healthcare access to military veterens...of course beings he came from wealth he was taken care of just fine after his time in service....so why would he care about all his less fortunate counterparts?

Exactly. One of the Vietnam Vets I know was kept in a small cage when he was a POW .He will always carry that baggage around, plus it messed his back and legs up permanently. You have to have grit to survive that, and to carry on when you return home to your family.
Don't forget sometimes people who are heroes are just at the right time and place and opportunity presents itself.
Say someone throws a grenade in the tent,I toss it out and save everyone. Most anyone would do that, you wouldn't even think about it,just a reaction. Not like "Hey I'm going to be a hero!!" is going thru your head, more like "OH s**t!! !! !! !"
Lots of potential heroes out there, they just don't have the opportunity to show it.
