How about instead of talking about conservatives opposing change, we talk about conservatives upholding tradition? I keep putting forth definitions of conservatism which serve my argument, and I don't see any others forthcoming. Don't assume we all agree on what words mean; it's just another bizarre generalization.

What's right? If you don't know what's right, then you don't belong in this country!

Here is another example of conservative tolerance. Most Republicans of the 1850s and 1860s opposed slavery and supported the Emancipation Proclamation.

How is that conservative, exactly? I ask for a definition and I get examples. Is this thing on?

A discussion, whether online or in-person, is hardly an interogation. Saying goodbye to this topic!

No wonder the FBI never called me back for another job interview.

In my experience within the Democratic Party (local, state and national) I have witnessed others make the argument that they needed to bend the rules because the Republican Party had cheated, too. Is that supposed to be unassailable logic?

Rule bending is pretty much commonplace for both sides. I was talking about the liberal belief that they have somehow been ordained to decide for the rest of us unwashed masses what defines what.

It only seems like that while you cling to your wrongheaded ideas.

Maybe not you, but for me and other non-progressives those small yet rather significant examples are just more nails in the coffin lid for your argument.

That's good. Take pride in your disregard for basic logic.

Tell me, are you the joker in that video that Phoenix posted? I ask because I'm seeing similarity here and it gets stronger with each of your posts here. Now call me a troll or whatever to make yourself look wiser.

One thing I've pointed out in at least one other thread is that the left preaches tolerance and when they don't practice it they come off as hypocritical.

Tolerance has never been a tenet of conservatism. That doesn't say that they, as a whole, are totally intolerant but that they can afford to pick and chose whereas liberals cannot, given both parties advertised values.

Here is another example of conservative tolerance. Most Republicans of the 1850s and 1860s opposed slavery and supported the Emancipation Proclamation.

Back in those day, the Republicans hardly were conservatives, as they not only supported emancipation, but also opposed states rights in favor of centralized government. If anything, the southern wing of the Democrats were the far right conservatives of their day, with their racial bias and emphasis on states having the right to discriminate on the grounds of that racial bias. While political ideologies remained, the parties that they were associated with changed hands, especially with the support of civil rights by the northern wing of the Democratic party, which was far more liberal by the mid 20th century compared to their southern counterparts. Then the Reagan Revolution ended up converting virtually all white Democrats in the south to the Republican party.

No, being a conservative does not automatically make one a bigot. There are different types of conservatives like there are different types of liberals. For example, there are social conservatives, and there are fiscal conservatives, and while social conservatives seem to more likely also be fiscal conservatives, fiscal conservatives are not necessarily social conservatives.
