People did not deserve to have their lives destroyed for expressing any socialist or communist beliefs. I'd rather see peoples' lives destroyed because they spew hatred against immigrants and queers than because they dared to question capitalism.

McCarthyism was the government and business silencing those who challenged their power.
'Woke'-ism is common people banding together to ensure social and economic consequences for those with power who say and do morally reprehensible things. If the government and corporations sometimes help do it, that's because they know the public backlash that rightfully awaits them if they dont.

McCarthy was not right by any degree. McCarthy was a demagogic gadfly out to gain personal aggrandizement by exploiting Anti Communist paranoia, resulting in ruining people's lives.
What communists in congress? Sanders is a social democrat, while the Squad hardly fit the definition of communists, so no. In fact, white nationalists have had a real presence in congress, such as the thankfully voted out Steve King.

No matter what modifier you give it or how you pretty it up, socialism is a dangerous and evil system.

Bernie is a social democrat. The difference between the two is that in social democracy, heavy industries (oil, mining, telecom) are private enterprises, whereas in democratic socialism, those industries are usually state-run. He doesn't suggest nationalizing major industries, just taxing the billionaires.

Examples of democratic socialism would include Bolivia and Angola.

You didn't read the Wikipedia article did you? it says "He is a self described Democratic Socialist".

He can call himself an anarchist, it wouldn't make it inherently true. Based on the views he espouses he's a social democrat. He advocates reform to the existing system; even if he occasionally sounds like he might be calling for something more radical any time he makes an actual policy proposal it's always incremental in nature and reform minded.

I'll say it again for ya, since apparently you don't read either.

And if you think ALL socialism is bad, regardless of the flavor or context, I hope you don't plan to rely on public roads or public transport or ever call the police or fire department or get an insurance policy, since THATS SOCIALISM!! !

I think the acceptance of the democratic socialism you speak of has only been developed in certain countries of age that have, over time, via education and a more health prone society, created a safer space for more liberating thought processes. Personally, I am not quite sure if the United States can trust its population with the heavy responsibility of accountability and understanding. Case in point would be to cross reference those countries’ criminal justice systems and sentencing to that of the United States’. The United States is, (and I realize this is a rash generalization and doesn’t apply to all) the spoiled teenager of the world with Daddy’s credit card. When we live in a society where grown men that wear tights and catch a football get paid more than influential humanitarians it is questionable to wonder who is right or wrong on the teeter totter of some individuals’ viewpoints on this topic. The context of one’s society may be a good place to start. Sustainability vs domination, capitalism that rests upon the dominance over other less fortunate countries... some say in the name of safety. But very true, I use that line quite a bit with acquaintances’ staunch repulsion to socialism. Asked them to cut up their library card. Refusal.

I'm a dirty leftist but I listen to conservative talk radio and read National Review most days. I try to consider a variety of news sources. I still find 93.1 FM and NR better for a laugh than anything else. Consuming conservative news media has not helped my opinion of their politics. American Conservative is the closest thing to an exception, but they're much too moderate for the GOP's base these days.

It sort of is the spoiled teenager of the world. An upstart, wealthy country thrust into superpower status after the European powers tore themselves apart in the World Wars. They gotta always get what they want and everyone has to do just what they say. They think they know better than anyone else. That kind of teenager usually learns humility the hard way.

The movie Team America: World Police is obviously satirical, but relatively equivalent to what you state above. I’d recommend just watching the trailer as the movie itself is a bit vulgar. Americans are too uneducated, entertained and content with their lifestyles to pay any attention to the decades of bullying by the United States. Do you believe the conservative ideologies lean so much on Christianity that they think they are simply policing the evils of the world or is that a smokescreen for the American monetary motive?

Sorry I missed this for so long. My wife discovered it behind some unread emails.
Bernie is a Social Democrat; that means he is in favor of the free market as long as it's regulated from steamrolling over ordinary people, and that there's a social safety net in place to keep people from dropping into poverty. I fail to see anything evil about that, and in fact only good things.
What qualifies someone to be a socialist? All I see are social democrats wanting to protect the interests of the many within our government.
Joseph McCarthy was a sociopathic grandstander who wanted to build a career in government over the lives he ruined. Also, his right hand man was Roy Cohn, a corrupt closet case who used his position to expand his career, then who went on to being a mob lawyer and Donald Trump mentor (Trump refused to return Cohn's calls after it became news that he had contracted the AIDS virus).
If socialism is an evil system, what do you call unregulated capitalism that leaves workers in poverty, and the health of customers in danger?

Socialism has never worked and will never work. No matter what modifier you place in front of it or how you dress it up to look nice, it will never work.

I've come to the conclusion that what is appealing about socialism is the fun of imposing it on people who don't want it. Kinda like Rap Music.

Socialist policies have been working fine in western Europe for over a hundred years. This argument is dependent on forgetting that Norway, Switzerland, the Netherlands, etc. do not exist.

What's appealing about socialism is seeing everyone's basic needs met rather than letting the wealthy decide who deserves to live and die. What does rap have to do with any of this??????

How is providing a social safety net to keep people from being left behind while the rest of the country prospers, or regulations on business that protects workers and customers, in any way socialism?

Ask the people of Venezuela.
In theory socialism is a great idea that compassionate people can understand. But, in practice it never works because it requires the government to be the instrument of that compassion. Government (any) is only interested in it's own power and will use the wealth and power granted to them by compassionate, well meaning people to enslave those very people. For the "common good" of course.

That's just like your opinion man, speaking of things that are annoying when people insist on forcing them on others.

Social Democrats are entitled to work towards expanding the social safety net via democratic means. Anti-socialists aren't entitled to destroy democracy because they worry that social democrats might gain power and expand the social safety net.
