This is a really good illustration of a major issue with Braverman - she thinks she's American. This contrasts to Rishi Sunak who merely wants to be American.

"They want to turn London into San Francisco!" only works if your audience shares your impression of San Francisco. Most British people, I would guess, have a vaguely positive impression of San Francisco as a sunny place with the Golden Gate Bridge and maybe some tech companies. It just doesn't come up very much in the national conversation.

I can't comment on whether living in a tent in San Fran is nicer than living in an apartment without aircon. I can say that living in a tent in London is much worse than living in an apartment and living in a tent in Newcastle is a recipe for hypothermia. Our winters are relatively mild compared to Minnesota, but much colder than California.

The thing they should be most embarrassed about is the times when they import a Republican talking point, forgetting that, while the Democrats hold the White House and it makes sense for the American right to attack the government, in the UK the Conservatives have held Downing Street for thirteen years and they can't blame anyone else for the fentanyl on our streets or chaos at our border with Mexico.

Why won't anyone do something about the chaos along the Anglo-Mexican border? It's a bleedin' outrage.

I'm starting to think today's British politicians are incapable of object permanence. They don't understand cause and effect, and have a poorer grasp on reality than the average toddler. They just cannot seem to understand that there is a real world outside the Westminster game, where real people are affected by their policies and real people can see what they're up to. Not just the Tories, either - this attitude is shown in the way Labour are constantly having their endless stupid feuds out in public, then get all hurt and surprised when people don't vote for them.

I recently read an article about Milton Keynes City Council's approach to homelessness. They're doing a hell of a lot better than the rest of the UK. The idea is to get people into permenant accomodation as quickly as possible, instead of dicking about with shelters and other temporary accomodation that don't provide long-term stability. One detail that stood out: they said that in the whole city, there are just 16 hardcore homeless people who refuse to come indoors for various reasons, and those 16 are being checked up on.

This is a similar approach to Finland, who have virtually eliminated homelessness. The Finns have found the rather counter-intuitive result that paying for homes for the homeless actually saves the government money. Most of these people end up back in the workforce and paying taxes, and they're not out committing petty crimes to survive, nor are they landing in hospital with pneumonia or an overdose every few months.

Imagine that.. homes solving homelessness. Who'd have ever thunk it???

So Suella Braverman has now been sacked by Sunak for all her recent comments and behaviour. To be replaced by James Cleverly...

... while Cleverly has been replaced as Foreign Secretary by Mr Austerity himself, Wee Davey Cameron.

Yes, if they have to call in Cameron to patch them up, does it mean none of the current government ministers are good enough?? I fear it does

The thing that baffles my head is why has it taken so long to get rid of Therese Coffee?

I mean wtf was she all about, really!

Yes I saw that about the tents. Disgusting. As if homeless people haven't got enough problems. The British government has started a culture of 'blame the most vulnerable and helpless' to distract us from the real culprits- THEM and the billionaires syphoning off our money e.g. shareholders in energy companies.

The Tories need to be got rid of in whatever way possible.
