Ya I think Texas can split into 5 states as it is now.

If Texas were to split into five states, there is a very strong chance that those four of those states would be Democratic states and one would be Republican. Those states formed with the Dallas-Fort Worth, Houston, San Antonio, Austin, and El Paso would likely see the Democrats in the cities overriding the Republicans in the countryside. The exception would be one with Amarillo and Lubbock.

The five states thing was the result of the annexation of Texas into the US. It doesn't say that Texas could only split into five states, only that it is already approved for Texas to split into five states. For 254 states, it would require Congressional approval. That approval would be rather unlikely, though.

Ya I was saying that Texas is already approved to split into 5 states. I dont know what the Republicans would gain from splitting Texas because it would give the Dems a lot more Senators and more house members than the Lone Republican state of Texas fragment would give the Republicans.

Dividing into five states would be a disaster for the Republicans. Dividing into 254 states would be an enormous benefit to Republicans.

Many people think that if Texas were split into five states, that would be five Republican states. I think it would most likely be one Republican state and four Democrat states.

I haven't seen a map of the boundaries of these hypothetical states, but I can't help thinking that conclusion may be predicated on the highly doubtful assumption that Hispanics reliably vote Democrat.

I don't think it will happen. Canada and Denmark are both members of NATO.
