This is to express my gratitude for Jonk's input. I have investigated many sites in the web and been attracted to the few contributers on this one that have been able to express themselves clearly and with intellectual depth but so far none have matched Jonk's capability and generally sane understanding. It's been a very pleasurable encounter.

Do I think aliens exist? Yes, probably, the universe is certainly big enough.

Do I think they have visited Earth and kidnapped cows and yokels? Only on TV.

Aliens may actually exist, and/or UFO's may be demonic phenomena.
But either way, God is neither indicated nor disavowed the way your title implies.

I chose the title because I wanted to suggest, and explore, the possibility that a belief in aliens could satisfy some of the same needs, fulfil some of the same functions, as belief in god.

I ended up thinking that, as far as I'm concerned, for a belief in aliens to provide all that belief in god can/does, the alien(s) would have to be such extraordinary incredible being(s) that I might aswell be talking about god(s).

Posting on this thread, and the reading I did about this subject at the same time, actually resulted in my deciding to believe in god again, for far stronger and more interesting reasons than I had ever done previously. :D

Since you cannot be dissuaded from wanting some extraordinary general being who is totally incomprehensible to fear or love or whatever I imagine one is as good as another.

I discovered that this is in fact not the case. Not for me anyway.
