Homosexuality in every way should be prohibited by justice and gays should be prosecuted and have no acceptance at all
Gay people should have less rights than straight people, like no marriage, but they shouldn't be punished for being gay and be accepted 10%  10%  [ 8 ]
Gays should be equal in every way to straight people 90%  90%  [ 72 ]

true. but bi-racial kids used to get bullied a lot too. (probably still do, in some parts of the country.) i think it's more an argument against bullying than queer marriage.

Gays should have equal rights to straight people. I support gay marriage, gay adoption, etc.

I like having sex with sheep, goats, dogs, little boys, dead people and woman's handbags.

I like kidnapping women and raping them before I cut them into pieces and eat them.

Thank you for telling me that I am "normal" and have nothing to be ashamed of.

I didn't say all people should be equal, regardless of the actions they pursue; I said all people should be equal (as who they are). Thanks for taking my words out of context and to the extreme.
People should be judged for what they do, not for who they are (race, color, creed, faith, sexual orientation, etc.)

wowza.

well--all i can say is--how many of the above activities are mutually consensual acts between adults?

how many of them are (potential) expressions of affection or respect?

didn't think i'd get so serious on this thread. but really. it's not just the homophobia. it's the sloppy thinking.

And what is a child to think of heterosexual sex? They do what? Down where? Gross! Your subjective feeling of disgust is not a good reason to prohibit homosexual sex or marriage between two people of the same sex.

Agreed. I used to get grossed out (till a pretty late age, admittedly) by the imagination of any sexual activity, gay or straight. Besides, jsut because some people would get more grossed out imagining gay sex than straight sex, doesnt'mean gay sex or marriage should be prohibited. If everything that grossed out some people would be prohibited, I guess there'd be very little liberty left.

I agree to what JohnnyCarcinogen says. If Wombat truly did have the preferneces he claims to have, I would not want to have him punished just for having these preferences, or even for being open about them. I hope that I could treat him with as little prejudice as possible, as much like I did before I knew of his preferences. I would, however, want to see him punished if he were to rape a woman and cut her to pieces and eat her, or if he actually did have sex with a little boy, or a corpse, etc.

However, this is ientirely irrelevant, IMO, to the gay debate, since I don't consider consensual gay sex to be a problem at all.

My kind, intelligent, funny younger brother is gay. It bothers me that anyone would presume to categorize him by his sexuality only, when he is just as complex and diverse as any other human being. I am straight and no one thinks everything I am is a result of that orientation. I fully support equal rights because there is no logical reason not to. If we are talking about two rational adults who decide they want to make that commitment, then I see no reason why they shouldn't be allowed that right. If churches don't want to acknowledge the union, then that is their right. I believe in the separation of church and state. I once knew two men in their 60's. They had known each other since they were 10 and been together since they were 20. They remained devoted to each other until one of them died a few years ago at age 80 or so. They shouldn't have had to play confirmed bachelor roommates for all those years. It's a human right issue really, I think.

I'm Taoist, so I believe that sex is important as a healthy exchange between masculine and feminine energies. Given this Taoist belief on sex, you'd think that Taoism would forbid homosexuality.

Oddly enough, despite being one of but a small group of religions that (seem) to have a perfectly logical reason to outlaw it, homosexuality is very accepted in Taoism. It is actually seen as extraordinarily unhealthy for a man to have sex with a woman with above-average masculine energy... which is, according to standard Taoist belief, the reason for women to be gay. The same is true of men with feminine energy.

Hence, homosexuality is considered both natural and perfectly healthy. As such, homosexuals should be treated the same as heterosexuals.

I think gays should have the same rights that heterosexuals have. I love my gay relatives just as much as any family member. In fact, I voted against Prop H8 in California, and would do whatever I could to make sure that gays get the right to marry. Homophobic churches don't have to recognize those marriages, but they shouldn't take away those rights. Ideally, I would love it if all marriages were done civilly first, then a religious ritual afterward if the couple wanted to, just like they do in some countries.
