That brings up an interesting question; why did it take a Constitutional amendment to prohibit alcohol, but the war on drugs required no such rigorous procedure to pass legal muster?

Because rights are no longer respected when they get in the way of politics and authority figures.

...or profits.

That as well, and that is perhaps the worst part of it.

Making more money is not an excuse to cause suffering to someone. If it means that much, grown a certain strain of weed and sell it (at street prices or near around... no way in high holy hell I will pay more than 15 a gram)to make the bloody profits if you feel the need.

Without profits you would not have your computers on which many of you type your nonsense.

Well, some of us aren't profiting by typing nonsense.

For the computers, we can thank low-paid Chinese factory workers. Otherwise, they would be completely unaffordable.

It was capitalists and profit makers that brought about the existence of affordable computers which the Chinese now make cheaper than Americans. When I got into the computer business only large businesses could afford them and they and their equipment filled very large rooms. Thanks to the capitalists, computers you could put on your desk top came into being.

You have no sense or knowledge of history, do you know that?

I'd turn in my computer for the right kind of change. I turned in my cable for a lot less, TV is going in the same direction.

The problem is not all profits everywhere.

The problem is when profits become god and come before everything else, including peoples health and well being.

I think your tune would change very quickly if you needed medical marijuana.

We must distinguish between honest and dishonest profit. When value is exchanged voluntarily for value the profit is generally honest and mutually beneficial. Profits made because of artificial scarcity, such as our government produces with its silly prohibitions is not generally beneficial and honest.

The government should not be in the business of prohibiting the production and sale of commodities which peacable folk want and need. Doing away with Prohibition of all kinds would lower our crime rate and help empty out the prisons.

Without the space program, we wouldn't have these computers.

I was born only 4 short years after Prohibition was repealed.

I learned from my parents and other older family members what it was like during those Bad Old Days.

You can't buy booze in Saudi Arabia. I don't think that making booze available would necessarily improve their lives.

Different culture. America had a drinking culture. In fact it was excess use of alcohol that lead to Prohibition. But the "cure" turned out to be much worse than the "disease".

And I am sure many Muslims have a sip or two when no one is looking.

In many places in the Arab area of the world a woman is executed if she is raped, they don't think changing that will improve their lives either.
