I heard that the security measures were not enforced at Sandy Hook at the time of the shootings. Adam Lanza came into the school 10 minutes after the doors were supposed to be automatically locked according to measures. Although he was probably let in because he was the son of a teacher there, he was carrying 2 pistols and wearing camouflage--classic red flag.

I heard on the news just a few minutes ago he entered the school by shooting glass out of a door, reaching in and opening from the inside. You would think they would have doors that couldn't be opened that way, wouldn't you? But it might be a fire hazard.

I'm reading this on another forum and i'm just confused. People are saying they are sadened and feeling sick to their stomach about this.

That really confuses me. I honestly feel nothing, and that this is just another of many shootings.

I also think banning guns is a bad idea and will make things worse.

How will banning guns make things worse than this?

Making people more helpless doesn't generally make them less victimized.

But that's beside the point. I think the point here is that this guy wasn't just unusual or different or quiet; I think odds are high that he was on psychotropic drugs to treat some kind of diagnosed personality disorder.

I think there's a trend among school shootings and other pointless massacres that the assailants are on legally prescribed drugs.

Yep. The fact the media keeps changing their stories or adding stuff that is irrelevant to convince people to blame his divorced parents, claim it's autism one minute and then personality disorder reeks of what happened in the past with the other shootings and the media even blaming Marilyn Manson for Columbine. It was discovered they were on prozac. Virginia shooter same...he was on psychiatric drugs and how many people have fallen prey to this? ALOT. suicide, homicidal thoughts, hallucinations and doing something horrible not remembering what they did. What will be done? NOTHING.

I'm not such an anti-gun zealot that I want to ban firearms. But having everyone packing heat is going to be no more constructive in the case of a lunatic shooting up the place as having no guns. After all, are we to arm our school children, or have teachers carrying guns? In the case of that Colorado theater shooting, the stupidest thing anyone said was that everyone there should have been carrying guns. Just imagine the carnage and death toll if that whole theater erupted in gunfire. I doubt anyone would have walked out alive just from being shot by "friendly fire."

Getting rid of guns will result in other acts of violence. Stabbings, chainsaws, homemade bombs. This will not stop violence.

The guy had two pistols, a Glock and a SIG, with which he apparently did all the shooting, and an AR-15 variant of some sort left in the trunk; that's hardly an arsenal. In fact, what strikes me about that particular collection of firearms is that those are all guns associated with law enforcement, and thus very, very common in civilian hands as they have already been proven effective and reliable in police usage. In car terms, we're talking like a Jetta, a 325i, and a Suburban in terms of popularity and ubiquity, not some exotic high speed low drag ninja assassin guns here. The high body count is due to the sick bastard choosing a very soft and target rich environment, not the weapons used. I mean we're talking victims that could offer no resistance at all, he probably could have done about as much damage with a single action revolver, or even something like a large edged weapon or bludgeon.

You're talking to a responsible gun owner. My bullets go where I intend for them to go.

I don't even understand your point; are you hoping the police will show up and do what they did in NYC when they hit 7 or 8 innocent bystanders just to shoot one armed criminal?

Okay, I'll just have to outrun Leatherface.
But seriously, while those other tools of mayhem can and are indeed used to murder people, the fact is, gun deaths are much more numerous and can cause more extensive injuries. I can outrun a guy with a knife, but a bullet will always be faster than me.

hehe you do have a point. At least you do get to run and put up a fight and have the bad person chase after you with a possibility that the person will fall over due to perhaps eating too much junk food!

What on earth makes you think you can outrun an experienced violent criminal armed with a knife?

Also, this just hit the wire:
