Does Pope Francis kick ass?

The Pope is that rarest of things, a genuinely holy man. This probably explains why many people find him hard to fathom, even threatening, because his kind don't come along very often, at least not in the West. And Christianity is essentially an Eastern religion that has never really taken root in the West. Being Orthodox, I recognise many characteristics of the Orthodox faith in the Pope.

Everyone will have to make up their own minds about him, of course, but he is not acting like a Pope should and the Catholics that think he's so great need to wake up. Even some of the Bishops are calling him satanic and are saying he is or is in with the antichrist. Like I said, each person (who is a Catholic) will have to decide on whether they want to follow this Pope or not. This Pope is just one of many reasons that I am glad I left the Catholic Church.

Who is to judge that he isn't acting like a Pope should? He has certainly broken the mould of most of his predecessors, questioned societal and traditional norms, but in doing so he is in very good company - after all, Christ Himself did exactly this, and was similarly accused of being a false prophet and a follower of Satan.

The only one to judge the Pope is God.

The rumours circulating among Bishops (would these be American Bishops by any chance?) sound more like malicious gossip by the sort of Protestant-style Roman Catholics who are so numerous in the West. From an Orthodox perspective, there is little difference between Protestantism and Catholicism; the former is the egg laid by the Roman goose.

I'm not going to get into another religious debate about the pope - my time is more valuable. That's why I said everyone will have to come to their own conclusions of what they think about him. I have already made my decision.

If your time is too valuable to enter into a debate about the Pope, it might have been better not to post comments such as 'the Pope is satanic', which I'm sure you realise are likely to initiate a lively discussion on this particular forum. Lol yes I agree, if you can't stand by or defend what you believe what is the point?

There have been politicians that have said and done similar things to Pope Francis, it is not that new. The differnce is the Papacy isn't necessarily expected to directly change people's lives en masse, but rather to inspire them to change their own behaviour.

As a humanist from a catholic family, I'm cautious of the fanfare that surrounds him. Sure he is nice chap as an individual, however the theological detail does matter, even if the broad brush moral message may be a bit more positive.

As a former harley-riding night-club bouncer, I imagine that yes, he has kicked some ass in his day.

He's behaving like a good jesuit, from what i understand. And good on him for it.

He needs to kick some ass in africa, what with catholic bishops playing anti-vax.
