Didn't Gary North talk about how like Y2K was going to cause the apocalypse?

Anyway I thought this is a good example of something that could be interpreted as racist, but isn't.

Oriental is not the preferred nomenclature dude; please, Asian.

Actually I noticed that too. I found out why you aren't supposed to say oriental. Oriental is the term that applies to things. Asian is the term that applies to people.

This made me think of the scene in Animal House where the Dean's wife is flirting with the frat guy in the produce section of the store and he says cucumbers are sensous and she said people are sensous and vegetables are sensual.

So I guess Asian and Oriental are applied to different nouns. Oriental.food, oriental furniture, oriental culture, Asian girl, boy, man, woman, folks, etc. I wonder why oriental fell out of fashion to be used about things. Maybe people think it's the word and not the usage that is incorrect, so its turned into one of those accidentally offensive terms.

Bullies love to accuse people of whining so some people are sensitive to being called whiners if they have been treated this way in the past. I'm giving you the benefit of the doubt though and just trying to inform you that this upsets people and doesn't help the conversation along.

First, I'm no bully although many people who I assume share your mindset will have "bully" as their go to word. After all, if you call me a bully, and bullying is in the eye of the victim because a bully never admits it, then no matter what I say you're right and I'm a bully, no? But your feelings have nothing to do with facts and the facts are I'm not bullying anyone. I'm discussing my feelings about this movement on a forum. I'm not posting on your FB timeline insulting you. Stating my feelings about a movement and my take on the folks involved, in general, isn't bullying.

Just because I say its whining doesn't mean someone's feelings are invalid. There are no invalid feelings, including mine. We feel what we feel. It's there. It's real. It's in our heads and we may choose to talk about it, but its valid. It may not be based on facts but its real. Feelings can be incorrect but they are still valid. If I said I felt you were targeting me because I'm high functioning and I encourage others to try to improve their skills, that would be valid. It would be what was in my head (in this example, it's not really there. I pulled it out of my ass) but it might or might not be correct. If it's incorrect it's still a real and valid feeling. Telling someone that x isn't meant as offensive isn't invalidating their feelings. Telling someone that they are annoying when they keep on about how they may feel that your cowboy boots are cultural appropriation isn't telling them that their feelings are invalid. It's telling them they are wrong about intent, or annoying, or even silly and its not the same as valid.

I don't understand everyone's feelings but I don't think most of them are silly and overblown. I think that some of this crap is though. And most people I know do too. Why is it OK for you to say that "Hi, nice to meet you. Are you new here? Yeah, where are you from" is racist but its bullying for me to say I think it's whining? You can label my words but I can't label yours? What makes you so special then? (Collective you, not you you. Calm down)

To be honest it's not normal to be so overly sensitive and paranoid that you find fault with multiple small things that aren't even noticable nor intended in the slightest way to be offensive and you get upset over such tiny things. By normal I dont mean average. I mean majority. I'm not saying you can't feel that way, you can. But I'm saying that it's probably a lot easier on you to get some help for the problem so you aren't always worried about being offended or being offended or getting over being offended, because no matter what somebody will offend you without meaning to and some will just to watch you get upset. If you say why should I change, it's because you are feeling a lot of distress. Why wouldn't you want to get that treated? That's what people used to do and they felt better after.

I don't call it whining because I'm some bully. I call it that because it is. It's complaining annoyingly about a trivial things that doesn't upset many people and wouldn't upset many people. It's acting like your feelings are so important that just refraining from insulting people and doing any of the thousand things everybody knows are rude or offensive isn't enough, you want people to learn special rules to deal with you. And that's not only annoying and whining, it's entitled too.

The difference between what I'm doing and they are doing is I'm annoyed by this but it doesn't effect my emotions. The most I would feel is embarrassed that people might think we are all that way over here. I don't expect you to stop because I don't like it,and I have no desire to put social pressure on you to. I do desire to speak up about what bothers me if all you guys are going to do is walk around talking about what upsets you andigjt upset everybody else, constantly. It's whiney. It's not the same as whatever you did in school when a bully hurt you. This is ridiculous. Jazz hands. Really. Somebody defend that s**t with a straight face.

Why is developing a thicker skin so wrong? What's so terrible about it? Why not work on that? You will be a lot happier not being triggered daily.

This.

Nope. Me saying I think this movement is ridiculous and that most of this is whining is not bullying. Now if I chased you down and called you a whiner that would be. If I posted on your FB about it that would be. If I some way targeted a person or a group or particular people and not a movement in particular then that would be bullying.

Public discussion, debate and opinion is not bullying. It's the same damn s**t y'all do. But not as shrill and not as important to us.

I am so over people being offended over trivial things, recently someone dressed up as Kanye West and she was branded Racist and she had to apologise, because somebody reckoned she had blackface she only put what looked like dark fake tan on.
The socialist left will haul anyone over the coals if they say anything that isn't PC.

Is pretending to be Kanye West considered non-PC? It is a fact that white people ridiculed and stereotyped blacks for decades using blackface. It's not unreasonable to be concerned about that.

From what I understand she likes Kanye West so she wanted to dress up like him.
She's from a Basketball (Or Netball) team over here.
Blackface is that hideous black with white around the eyes I can see why it is distasteful.
But she didn't have that on she just looked like she put to much fake tan on.

The problem with using "Asian" to mean east or southeast Asians, is that people outside the U.S. often use "Asian" to speak of those that are of south Asian heritage, which can lead to confusion.

I usually just say "east Asian" for east or southeast Asian people, or "south Asian" for those from India, Pakistan, etc.

Blackface parodied black people in general, because they were black. Dressing up like Kanye is dressing up like Kanye who is also black. Whether you dress up like him because you like him or admire him or his style, or are going as a couple costume with your ole lady who is going to dress like Kim Kardashian, yellow primer and all, or you just want to go around and interrupt people to tell them about Beyonce dressed like him, it's not the same. It's very far from the same.

Blacks who were around during vaudeville were helpless to do anything about blackface and being played up as fools or step m fetchits or mammy's or uncle Tom's or whatever other stereotype. They were also not portrayed accurately or even similarly. And the whole black race was being parodied.

Kanye on the other hand can sue the f**k out of you. His father in law was on OJs dream team. Hes got him and his own lawyer and his business lawyer and probably 150 lawyer fans who could gladly make your life miserable for a signed photo with kanye. Kanye cam also find out where you live and buy your house and maybe your neighborhood and the place you work at too. He can kick you out and fire you. He can also maybe take your ole lady away from you just by smiling.

Kanye is one person. He is a particular person and when dressing up like him you copy the style he chose. He's nowhere near generic. You also do kanye gestures and expressions and stupid Grammy s**t because that will never die. You are dressing up like a powerful, rich, famous, desired man, using his style and copying what you have seen him specifically do.

The only thing close to blackface that I could imagine for a Halloween costume, other than actual blackface, would be finding a stereotype within the black community and dressing like them and acting in ridiculously stereotyped and overdone ways of things that you don't actually see black people doing since they quit paying actors to do them on Good Times and Sanford and Son. That would be offensive. You would also be in great danger of getting yourbass deservedly kicked by the people you are making fun of.

Kanye? Not unless you want to have Kanye and Lil Wayne singing Mammy. And that would be offensive. But as regular irregular Kanye? Not so much.
