Italy wasn't fully united until about 1870.

It was still nominally a monarchy even under Mussolini. It was abolished in 1946.

No prizes for guessing I have some German ancestry also...
But I too have the same attitude...
I am first and foremost Australian...

Many years ago someone mentioned that it was a tossup whether the official language in America would be English or German...
I might verify that someday...

Yeah, that was broadcast on an ad on Australian TV about 20 years ago. I saw it too. Trouble is, it's not true. See link.

I don’t believe America deserves that “k” you keep spelling “America” with.

I agree people like to down talk America because its the only global superpower. I would much rather have America as the global super power than Russia, China or Germany. Previous super powers have acted far worse than America, yet America is demonised even though the majority of good things in the past 100 years come from America.

That's actually a myth; America has no official language.

Correct. There was never an official language in the USA, nor an official religion.

African-Americans are usually quite “American.” They have more than merely “assimilated.”

With the recent marches and up-coming election in Italy, the League Party - a Fascist party (they even call themselves fascists - they won't hide it, like Germany's AFD is trying to hide its nazi-ideology) can now govern Italy.

They are friends of Stalin.. eh, I mean Putin.

Poland's recent decline into totalitarian fascist dictatorship along with Orban's Hungary is likewise worrying, and so is the rise of AFD in Germany and Front National in France.

My question:

Why - WHY WHY WHY! are people REFUSING to learn from history? Do people really LIKE Fascist ideology? Do people WANT dictatorship instead of democracy?

This is the 1930's again and again!

Some Westerners are under the much mistaken notion that post WWII Italy was/is a secular democracy. Wrong. Is not and never has been one. The people would much better like a Vatican dictatorship.

Italy is a secular parliamentary, imperfect democracy.

Fairly corrupt. And not too efficient.

I agree on the corrupt and inefficient parts. Hasn't changed since Roman times.

We're all living in America,
America ist wunderbar
We're all living in America,
America, America
Wenn getanzt wird, will ich führen,
Auch wenn ihr euch alleine dreht,
Lasst euch ein wenig kontrollieren,
Ich zeige euch wie's richtig geht
Wir bilden einen lieben Reigen,
Die Freiheit spielt auf allen Geigen,
Musik kommt aus dem Weißen Haus,
Und vor Paris steht Mickey Maus
We're all living in America,
America ist wunderbar
We're all living in America,

Ich kenne Schritte, die sehr nützen,
Und werde euch vor Fehltritt schützen,
Und wer nicht tanzen will am Schluss,
Weiß noch nicht das er Tanzen muss
Wir bilden einen lieben Reigen,
Ich werde Euch die Richtung zeigen,
Nach Afrika kommt Santa Claus,
Und vor Paris steht Mickey Maus

So if you actually care about the future of your nation, do not want to be dictated to by unelected bureaucrats in Brussels, oppose the odious and harmful dogma of "multiculturalism" and care more for those already within your borders, are willing to close those borders to foreign invaders (oops, sorry, I mean't "refugees"), and value Christianity, you are a "Fascist".

Well, count me in, I'm a Fascist then, and bloody proud to be one!

Multiculturalism gave us the yiros. I'd gladly trade Christianity for a yiros.

If one is not prepared to integrate into the country one immigrates to, one is not welcome in my book...
If one doesn't like the culture of the country one wants to immigrate to, may I suggest one immigrates to a like-minded country...
Not rocket science...

My parents adopted Australian culture...
As soon as they learnt enough Inglish, nothing but Inglish was spoken in the house...
Now *that* is a commitment to the country they embraced...
They made immigrants differently in the 1950s...<shrug>

I've always liked Ramstein.
By the way, there's also a part of Thuringia in Germany called England (some of the Angle tribe had immigrated to central Germany, rather than Britain).
