Debunking 'Gender is a social contruct.'
“Gender identity” ideology is not grounded in material reality. It is a belief system adopted by some, similar to a religion, but need not be accepted as fact. Insisting that “gender identity” is innate and demanding that people use particular pronouns based on “gender identity” constitutes thought-policing.
Human beings are sexually dimorphic mammals. This statement is neither conservative nor bigoted. It is simply an assertion that is grounded in material reality.
“Gender identity” ideology reinforces the belief that human beings have certain innate traits or characteristics based on sex. This view is profoundly anti-science, sexist, and politically regressive.
“Gender identity” ideology denies that human bodies are sexed. As such, it rejects the notion that human beings can be attracted to people of a single sex, or of both sexes. This view is extremely homophobic.
It is not possible for a human being to change, or “identify out of,” his or her sex. A male person cannot become female. Male people who wish to enter the intimate spaces that are reserved for female people are invading women’s spaces, which is sexist.
Women fought hard for the right to participate in sports, and to have their own sports teams. Male people who wish to compete against females on the basis of “gender identity” are invading women’s sports, which is unfair to women and girls. In addition, women are being fired from jobs, banned from political parties, and black-listed, simply for questioning the notion that males can be female.
Female fetuses around the world are routinely aborted because they are female, not because of their “gender identity.” Insisting that “gender identity” is innate is a complete denial of the discrimination and torture that females face on a regular basis, globally.
Today, children are being taught that they can change their sex, or that they can have a “gender identity.” They are frequently encouraged to take life-changing hormones (many of which cause permanent sterility and disease) and get surgery to change their reproductive organs. This constitutes child abuse.
The “gender identity” movement is largely funded by corporate white elites (pharmaceutical, medical, bio-tech, etc.) who benefit financially from the insistence that “gender identity” is innate and that it is possible to physically change one’s sex, which is not true. In addition, “gender identity” ideology coopts and undermines the legitimate language of the 400-year-old struggle for civil rights for African Americans, which is simply racist.
“Gender identity” ideology coopts and undermines the legitimate language of intersex people, who are fighting for their rights to safety and privacy, do not consider themselves “transgender,” and do not wish to be associated with “gender identity” ideology.

There might be many "gender identities"--true.
And people should have a right to express them.
In my experience, though, the vast majority of women identify as being a 'woman." And the vast majority of men identify as being a "man." Even gay people. Even masculine women. Even effeminate men. Even if a woman has masculine interests. Even if a man has feminine interests.
Obviously, there are people who are born "intersex" or who have been rendered a "girl" when born a boy; and vice versa. We have to take that into account.
And, of course, we have people who were male at one time, but became female later. And vice versa.
But I don't believe we are being "invaded" by the 71 or so genders. We have nothing to fear from alternative genders.
But...please...don't get pissed at me if I call you "he" or "she." Just correct me if you are another pronoun or whatever....
A lot of language is also social construct.
Social constructs are important part of the reality.

I think that this is a topic in which we need to proceed with sensitivity. We have various members with diverse identities that we wouldn’t want to lose.
Something that bothered me about the initial video is the way in which she laughed at people in diverse categories. I was reminded how, at various times, “science” has been used to justify things like racism and sexism.
I'm a middle of the road political Inde, having been driven there by my own Democratic party. In college in the late 80s I had to take what we called "PC class" to be resident assistants. PC was a new thing, and I knew then it would prove to be a problem...flash forward 30 yrs and here we are where we are monitored and shunned for the perception of not being "correct". For not accepting that some of us don't want "swinging dicks" in our locker room. Where we are required (I work for a city govt) to sit through training on gender sensitivity and peoples' preferred pronoun. Where a man can lose his job on the thinnest, unverified sexual harassment allegation or without trial. Where my male friends are afraid to interact with females for fear of being accused of harassment or insensitivity. You may not think this is related to the discussion of gender, but it's all related.
I evaluate ppl based on intelligence, common sense and work ethic. I don't care your color, race, gender, nationality etc. I truly don't give a damn. So stop trying to make me give a damn by being up in my face all the time, wanting to be recognized as special.
Lots of pearl clutching going on in this thread.....

So, what's your solution to help transgender people (people who genuinely feel they're "in the wrong body")?
What is your advice to doctors who treat transgender people?

PC culture has truly gone off the rails. You can't even have a dialog about subjects like this without being labeled a bigot, homophobic, transphobic, etc., by the left in some circles. People are too afraid to push back for fear of being branded intolerant. You have every right to express your discomfort to biological males in your locker room space as members of the LGBT community have a right to express their discomfort with not being able to use the bathroom or locker room of their choice. This is not the way to bring about a more tolerant society. Expanding the rights of one group by taking away the rights of others' is not how we do this.

I have no advice. I'm simply saying that nobody has the right to impose their ideology on anybody else.

Oh, it isn't. It was not my intention to suggest as such. I was trying to delicately suggest that it is inappropriate and inaccurate to use "I'm just following the science" as a shield, because the science is much more trans-friendly than mainstream thought.

not trying to be confrontational here, are you referencing studies you've read and can you provide links to such studies? I'm curious.

I'm not really sure what your point is. You can learn a language, you can't learn a gender. You can't change your gender identity just like that. David Reimer was raised a girl after a circumsision gone wrong; nobody told him he was a boy, but he still identified as one.
