There is cricket going on right at this very moment and England are looking like they are going to lose. So maybe best you don't get into it!

Lots of Indians where I live so plenty of cricket available if genuinely interested.

Any resemblance of cricket to baseball is superficial at best. Some similar terminology. From what I've seen I'm frankly not very interested. OTOH I actually like soccer which confounds my wife.

I don't follow very closely, I just enjoy the games. Apparently EPL have a big following here. I can identify a lot of the sides, that's about it.

You would have to ask someone from the UK.

I make the assumption that Americans just get confused between UK, Britain, The British Isles, England, Wales and Scotland. Maybe also throw in The Channel Islands, The Isle of Man and British Overseas Territories just for extra befuddlement!

I should have named the title "why aren't British stereotypes offensive?"

Well ... maybe.

My point is that if certain British stereotypes do not offend you specifically, then maybe they are not offensive.

Personally, the stereotypical "Brit" in my mind is reserved, intelligent, hard-working, well-mannered, and not prone to acts of excessive violence -- the kind of person whom I would like as a neighbor and even a friend.

People like Benny Hill and the Monty Python troupe, while entertaining, do not represent real British people to me.

Well it seems that politically there's nothing anyone can say about the British people that will be controversially offensive like there is with African people for example.

The most false stereotype ever, sorry to say.
(No offense taken by the way).

"Bad" British stereotype here?
Drunk and agressive stadium hooligan.
That probably would be offensive.
Hey, have I just found an offensive British stereotype?

All Americans think that all Brits are like the cast of Dowton Abbey!

In reality more Brits are like Andy Capp, or like Hyacinth Bucket's slob brother than like anyone in DA.

OK...what I said about what Americans think is itself a stereotype. But the world of jokes is a world of stereotypes.

Are you serious or not?  This is the impression I have developed over decades of interaction with British people.

When I've gone on the Tube in London, people have been generally polite. If you stop and ask for directions, they'll be pleasant about giving the directions.

Now...if a British person gets drunk....that's another matter....

And they're not too patient when they drive.

Sort of -- in the British Indian Ocean Territories, as well as the US, Canada, and the Philippines.[/color]

Because they're not imposed by people who dominate the British and they're mostly agreeable to Britons.
