I'm a teenage atheist as well, and I dont go around attacking religious people as deluded, so don't assume it of all adolescents.

has nothing to do with age and more to do with implied immaturity. which is rich coming from people who still have an invisible friend who they believe is real.

Dean,

I would not presume to assume ALL adolescents were intentionally demeaning, nor would I assume all atheists are that way. Ska and Z0rp are, regrettably vocal minorities, in my opinion. Granted, teens have a tendency to think they know all and EVERYONE else is stupid, but some teens manage to avoid that phase. I am pleased to see that you are not one of those who feels that insulting people who disagree with you is the way to go.

I have had many friends comprising a wide variety of religious beliefs. My atheist friends are intelligent, polite, and well spoken. If they think I'm an "adult infant" they keep it quite admirably to themselves. My pagan friends are intelligent, polite, and well spoken. I've gone to a few of their campfire thingies and enjoyed the party. It's not MY way to worship but it seems to bring them the same peace and contentment that my sunday services bring me. I could go on, but you get the drift I'm sure. The point is that anyone who feels the need to demean another's belief system as infantile or deluded or anything else is showing their inherent insecurities and lack of maturity. That can be found in all ages and all belief systems, so it's hardly a teen/atheism specialty. ;D

Zorp, justify it how you want, you are clearly trying to demean religious beliefs.

Did I not say in my previous post, "All I was demeaning there was superstitious belief", so yes I'm demeaning or degrading if you will, religion. Why? Because it's ridiculous and overall in my view immature to take fairy tales as literal fact and I stand by that.

Rebecca_L wrote:
Since you don't believe then it's all "nonsense". Well, I don't believe mushrooms belong in the food definition, much less on anyone's plate, but I don't think people who eat them are stupid, nonsensical or full of BS.

Once again you fail at comparisons. Comparing religion to how mushrooms are classified as edible is ridiculous.

Rebecca_L wrote:
But then, I've matured to the point where I realize that people can and do believe some pretty fantastical stuff without believing they are stupid for believing them.

And that has to do with maturity at all? There are an insanely large amount of things that 'mature' people generally cast away or object to because they're ridiculous. An example could be someone who dresses and tends to act like they're a vampire. Most people seeing this person would immediately think down upon this person as demeaning or insane, or perhaps immature. And honestly if I saw someone like that in a supermarket or something, which I have, I'd probably think the same.

Perhaps one day you will learn how to disagree as an adult, without trying to drag in dismissive language. Until then you really have nothing to contribute as far as I can see.

And this argument would have contributed to anything even if I were to fit your mental image of tolerance?

And neither do most people including myself, especially in actual life. However, they were already arguing about it when I joined in here so I decided to give my input just as you've done yourself.

You've made your point. Why proselytise your militant atheism?

Peace.

That's my opinion, based on your actions.

You've already made it clear that you despise religion. Why go on and on about the same thing? It earns you no respect.

Peace.

I like to argue about it which is why I go on about the same thing. And when did I say I was looking to earn respect?

hmm...because of Bush, Chaney and Rumsfeld, a billion people have a problem with us. Cuts both ways.

actually, I don't have a problem with Muslims, if they don't have a problem with me. We do fine staying the heck away from each other.

Where do the Ting Tings fit in to Sharia law exactly? Is there a Muslim stance on it at all? Will they be playing a stadium gig in Iran soon? How are their middle eastern sales?
