I watched this recently on the Colbert Report:

http://www.comedycentral.com/colbertrep ... eId=232626

...the third segment in...the interview with Nick Kristoff...

...Stephen Colbert is very conservative, and I know that some of you have some strong opinions about conservative television personalities, but anyway....

But anyway, Nick Kristoff says that hormones and other things in the water are causing male amphibians (living in the same water that drinking water for our nation's capital come from) to have malformed genitals, fish to be intersexual, and male human babies to have undescended testicals and penis malformations, etc.

I have heard that girls are tending to undergo puberty earlier than previously, and there do seem to be more homosexuals prancing about than in past decades.

So, are we basically doing to ourselves what the Romans did to themselves through lead poisoning? Are we sissifying ourselves through hormones in the water supply? And, does this mark the beginning of the end of the American Empire?

What does homosexuality have to do with it? And sissification? Methinks you presume too much.

What hormones are in the water? Where are these hormones coming from? I have heard all the steroids pumped into our poultry and livestock are making people fat...and who knows what else, but this is the first I have heard of this. I imagine there might be more homosexuals prancing about because it is no longer socially acceptable to attack and bash them for having the nerve to prance. And I am not sure what defines a sissy.

I'd also like to add that in most countries you're either jailed or executed if you're homosexuality is known.

If it wasn't illegal on WP, I'd show you the amount of executions done to those suspected of homosexuality in places like Iraq and Iran. Some of them are kids.

America's also known to be very violent and intolerant to those suspected of homosexuality. It is in fact still going today yet now it's been recognized as an act of discrimination like racism.

i know some homosexuals who could kick your ass to disprove your fallacious idea that being homosexual effects one's physical strength.

also: the assumption that homosexuality is bad is fallacious.

Who are you suggesting should eat cake? Although there is uncertainty as to if Marie Antoinette ever even spoke these words, I have always understood it as a symbol of her apathy toward the famine of her own people...an insult of sorts.

Pandabear, Stephen Colbert (pronounced [kohl-BEAR]) is a fictional character, a parody of so-called "conservatives" like O'Niell and Limbaugh. He is portrayed by his creator, Steve Colbert (pronounced [KOHL-bert]), and was first created as a reported on Jon Stewart's The Daily Show.

He often has - well, there is no kind term - right-wing loonies on, in the hopes that he can exaggerate their positions and make them sound even stupider and more ridiculous than they really are. (Sometimes, this fails, because he's managed to book a guest so out-of-it that he can't sound any more ridiculous.)

This guest is one of those people. Colbert attempted to use satire to show the silliness of his tale, but it sounds like this was one of those goofs who are too far over the top to even satirize - when you try to take their argument to the next level of nonsense, you find them waiting there for you.

Industrial society is producing a lot of endocrine disrupting chemicals - these are messing with the sexual development of many species. Humans are apparently not as susceptible as fish or amphibians, but there is real concern that it could be causing problems.

Lake Apopka in Florida is an example of the effects of endocrine disruptors. There is a superfund hazardous waste site that feeds kelthane, DDT, DDE, and other chemicals into the lake, and the gators there have reproductive troubles unlike gators in cleaner waters.

Quote:
What Cautionary Tales Can Lake Apopka Tell?
by Anna Maria Gillis

Louis J. Guillette, Jr., views Florida's Lake Apopka with more than a little suspicion. Its resident young alligators are not developing right sexually, a fact that troubles the University of Florida-Gainesville biologist, who specializes in reptiles and their endocrine, or hormone, systems. He and his colleagues are finding that Apopka's juvenile alligators from the time they hatch have abnormal testes and ovaries and thoroughly mixed-up hormone balances. "We think that the gonads of juveniles from Lake Apopka are permanently changed while they are in their eggs," says Guillette. "They aren't likely to recover and produce offspring when they reach adulthood."

Guillette thinks that contamination from chemical spills at Apopka has caused major disruptions in the endocrinology of the long reptiles. He wonders about the likelihood of similar reproductive peculiarities in the lake's birds and fish, particularly commercially raised catfish. Might the ever-growing human population near the lake also be affected in subtle ways? Surprisingly, even though many local residents know about the research being done by Guillette and other scientists at the university and in state and federal agencies, they haven't expressed much concern. "They've been more worried about how this might affect their land prices than their health," he says.

The hormones in question come from contraceptives. They don't break down so quickly naturally and they are not filtered out of the water at water treatment plants. They certainly do have an affect on the amount of homosexuals present in the population, although at our present knowledge it would be impossible to put figures to the various factors.

Homosexuality and the Romans might have something to do with being largely non-Christian, not lead.

and also more socially tolerant and progressive.

it was the primitive christians who tore down the great society.

^just one example of a socially advanced being who was viciously killed by the christians.

Socrates Scholasticus wrote:
Yet even she fell a victim to the political jealousy which at that time prevailed. For as she had frequent interviews with Orestes, it was calumniously reported among the Christian populace, that it was she who prevented Orestes from being reconciled to the bishop. Some of them therefore, hurried away by a fierce and bigoted zeal, whose ringleader was a reader named Peter, waylaid her returning home, and dragging her from her carriage, they took her to the church called Caesareum, where they completely stripped her, and then murdered her by scraping her skin off with tiles and bits of shell. After tearing her body in pieces, they took her mangled limbs to a place called Cinaron, and there burnt them.
